Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Last week I was at the pet store and watched a few minutes as a dog was getting groomed. When I asked about it I was told it was a labradoodle. While I was strolling around, another labradoodle was taking part in a walk around the store. A few minutes later a lady came walking down the aisle with a dog. When I talked to her she said it was a goldendoodle. The very next day I was parking my car and a family was getting into the car next to mine. While getting out of my car, I noticed they were talking to their little puppy that was in the car. I asked what kind it was - since it looked like my Kendall. Yep, it was a goldendoodle! The next day I was driving in my car and sitting at a light. Guess what was sitting in the lap of the passenger in the car behind me? It sure looked like my Kendall! Now, I know that sometimes when we get something we notice them more, but I really think it is odd that in such a short period of time I saw so many of these dogs!

Wow, that is odd............we don't see many around us.
I think there are more but because we are so intuned to our Doodles we just see them where as before we may not have glanced. Yesterday 2 neighbors walked by - 1 we knew had a GD but she had no idea we had Samantha (obviously she is very close with her neighbors LOL since Samantha has lived with us 11 months already) and another dog was a cockapoo.
How fun! You'll have to start carrying our Doodle Kisses fliers and cards...LOL!
I am so glad you posted this flier! That's how I found out about doodle kisses from my local training facility. However, I looked a couple of weeks ago and the flier was gone! I've just printed one out and will take it with me this Wednesday for our obedience class! THANKS!
The other day I was driving to work and nearly got into an accident because I saw a big bushy goldendoodle with his head sticking out the window and his tongue lolling out. He looked like he was extremely happy...and BIG! Cute as can be!
I also think that the standard labradoodles and goldendoodles are becoming recognized as a specific type of dog. The smaller ones like mine are just recognized as a poodle mix of some sort.
There are so many labra/goldendoodles in NJ I swear everywhere we go we run into another :) I love meeting other doodles...they are almost always super friendly and adorable :)
I don't know if the ads vary according to location, but check out the Target ad in today's paper. There is a doodle laying on a pet bed in the ad. How close are doodles from becoming a recognized breed?
They are not anywhere near being recognized as a 'breed' -- but that depends who the recognizing organization is. If AKC...never and most doodle owners/breeders don't want AKC recognition.
The Rutland Manor labradoodles are definitely working on being recognized as a "breed". They have a breed standard on their website with all the hoohaa about what's acceptable and not.. yedda yedda... I don't know if anyone is doing this for the goldendoodles or not.. I'm just trying to figure all of this out.. but when you start talking "multigen" and f3's, etc. then you are getting into the beginnings of establishing a breed.

As for how close to being recognized as a breed by AKC?? I'd say at least a decade away in regards to the Rutland Manor labradoodles... just the opinion of a NON expert.

I am happy that AKC is now letting mixed breeds into their non-confirmation competition... although we can't compete head to head with the purebreds... LOL.. scaredy cats!
I was walking yesterday in my neighborhood, just enjoying the weather and a chance to stretch my legs, when who should appear just meandering up my street but my neighbor... with his new goldendoodle!! He said he bought his doodle from a breeder from TN. At first I thought: OMG! He got it from Teri! But no, not from my breeder, but from the breeder from which Teri borrows some of her studs: Tyco Ranch! Of course I bombarded him with a million questions, all the while petting and praising little Max, who was just happy as a clam with the attention. I think my neighbor is beginning to get annoyed and scared....I feel a little like a stalker. I saw him and Max out on their yard, and had to stop and say hello...and ask about food choices. (Purina Pro One. Not the best choice for poor Max. But it wasn't the right time to elucidate my neighbor on the doog food issue.) Anyway, talk about more doodles showing up! Right down the road from me! Hot diggity!
