I chose a goldendoodle because I grew up with an amazing golden retriever named Stormy. She was such a wonderful family dog. I love golden retrievers, but do not care for the excessive shedding. I also wanted a mini goldendoodle because this size fit more into my current lifestyle. I think labs are nice dogs, but there's something very special about golden retrievers, so that's why I chose a GOLDENdoodle :-)
I have always gone for the non-shedding. Our 12 yr old is a bichon cross and we also had her mother (RIP- cancer) who was minschnauzer/shitzu. They are/were both awesome dogs but we wanted something a little bigger this time around.
I always loved the looks of labradoodles and goldendoodles. I chose the goldendoodle because I fell in love with the puppy pictures when I was looking on the internet for our future dog. I liked the breeders reputation, proximity to me, and I contacted her to see if she had one available...she did, and here we are today. I just love her so much!
She has what my friend calls the "retriever wag". When she wags her tail she gets her whole bum and hips into it, and does it so hard she staggers and trips ...lol! Too cute!
We also had a golden retriever for over 15 years. A few months after she passed my wife Linda had been reading about Goldendoodles and we went to visit a few breeders. We visited a breeder just south of us one Saturday and brought Gus home with us that day. Just got lucky the litter was ready and we got our pick. As for Lilly we decided we wanted a second and found Lilly on Petfinder. The rest is history. As for the "retriever wag", that's what got Lilly her sometimes nickname of "wiggle butt".
We chose Toby because our son was researching, and did a quiz on-line, and the goldendoodle was listed as a breed that would fit our family. I must admit, I am a little disappointed that so far Toby is not overly affectionate or cuddly, but is intelligent, and enjoyable to have around. Perhaps the cuddly part will happen later on - he's 8 months old now.
Well, I am a die-hard GR fan. I have a 14 year old and swore I would never have another breed in my life. But, my son developed asthma and allergies. He is allergic to every other shedding dog, but our Boomer, so I figured our pet days were over, until I found out about Goldendoodles. The rest is history. I started planning on eventually getting a GD about 4 years ago and finally took the plunge in January. I wanted a medium, but decide to get a rescue - so I think FozzyBear will be about the same size as my GR - 75 LBS. But I do think the next time I will go with a medium.
We had Bear a yellow lab for 11 years before he had to be put down. We loved the retriever personality but I couldn't deal with the shedding any longer....I don't think I wore black for 7 of Bear's 11 years :)....I wanted a doodle but I didn't want a curly one, too poodley looking. We found Max on a local website and he was exactly what I wanted looks wise...shaggy with dark brown eyes! He's got a great personality and everyone loves him!
I wanted a goldendoodle because I have always wanted a golden retriever - but fell in love with the look of a doodle. So we went with the goldendoodle. Sometimes Abby is graceful and prancey like a poodle - other times she is big footed and clutzy like a retriever pup. I just love watching her move. And her coat is sooooo soft and nice to get your fingers in.
I also had a golden retriever for 12 years. We lost her in August. When I started to look again I decuded a smaller dog would fit better into our lifestyle and the non-shedding was a plus. I LOVE golden retreivers and the GOLDENdoodle was the closest thing to a retreiver, only pint size!! I also did look at Labradoodles and I personally didn't think they were as cute. Lucca is turning out to be a fantastic dog. He has so many golden Retreiver characteristics...I love it!!!!!
