We made it through the beginner's class tonight unscathed..Lyric was terrific and didn't bark once. But the other owners' weren't kidding when they described their issues last week! (See discussion called "beginner's class from H**L") The trainer did an excellent job of getting all the dogs into separate corners and building the confidence of the owners, so it went well. There was a lot of barking and lungeing, but everyone was starting to improve by the end.The out-of-control husky was pulling his owners most of the time and the Yorkie was growling at anyone who came near her owner. The Corgi who doesn't like other dogs was trying to take on the Rottweiler--yup, its an interesting group--but it should be fun. There was another labradoodle there-- very cute and smart..of course!!
In my opinion Doodles are always the "star" of the class. Our trainer uses our dood, Thomas in class to demonstrate because he is so smart and so willing to please . Of course at the moment he is chewing on the baseboard beside me in my office!!!
I am happy to hear that it went 'well' - at least for you!! We had a Corgi in several of our classes and he would try and bite any dog that came near him. His Mom was excellent at working with him but he will never change. Too bad. I wonder if that is part of their 'makeup'. Hope you continue to have fun in the class.

I remember our first class - there were 5 dogs in our puppy class, our Allie, a rottweiler, a great dane, a black lab, and a beagle mix. Allie was PETRIFIED of the other dogs until the VERY last class! Allie was the Husky of the class (except in doodle form!) who pulled us on leash the whole time, and still does to this day if only on regular collar and leash. But when it was time to do recalls - she was wonderful because she didn't want to be off leash near the other dogs!!!! She's very good with other dogs now.
Well, I agree that this Corgi isn't going to change much, but the owner isn't much help. She justs stands there and watches the dog get wound up.It's as if she is trying to prove to us that her dog really is bad! The trainer is trying to show her how to re-direct the dog's attention--she'll get it, I'm sure. My Mattie has to have a gentle leader harness in order to keep her from pulling and Lyric is pulling with the harness on or the nose leader on, but I will keep at it until she gets it. I sometimes walk them both at the same time and it is a bit like being a puppeteer!
I wasn't happy with the class started Molly in, it was a mixture of dogs and people with issues. After the first class I was ready to quit. We just had our third class and things are much better.
I think I got very spoiled with Abby's classes, they were all doodle. Abby's classes were a lot of fun..
I hope things continue to improve. I have three dogs, and the dachshund I could never take to a public or group class. She just would not work in that setting! My two doodles have done very well. I hope your experiences continue to improve.
