Can anyone give me any information on my Doodle's coat color? I have spent a little time looking on the internet but so far I haven't found anything. I hope her colors don't change much but from what I've read about Goldendoodles it could change quite a bit. Thanks for the help!
You have a very pretty doodle love the color=) I think when I got Murphy as a puppy they called him a brindle, but boy has he changed! He is sable now, I think they can change colors up untill they turn two. You should go to my page and see how he changed from a puppy.
I think your doodle is adorable, and they would consider the pups coat a party color. Brindle is more brownish red than black. Did you get your doodle from a breeder, what do they classify her coat as. Actually now that I see your doodle it puts me in mind of my first pup, he was no pure breed, and they didn't call them doodles back than. I hope your pup keeps its color also, will be nice to see what she looks like all grown up....
Either Brindle or Sable... but boy it's hard to tell which! It's easy to see the brindle stripes on a boxer with their flat shiny coat, but on fluffy dogs not so much =)
The more unusual colors are usually: phantom, brindle, or sable, parti, mismark--googling around I even found a brindle parti:
And they called this one a red and black brindle parti:
Brindles don't stop being brindles, sables don't stop being sables, phantoms don't stop being phantoms....BUT the intensity of the colors may change...so he may get much lighter with age.
I would call your pup a Black Tipped Sable with a Melanistic Mask. Without a really good side view, it is difficult to say if it is a Brindle. Brindles are easy to spot as their coats look like they have stripes. Each hair has two colors on each strand multiple times which causes this striping effect. Sables, on the other hand, are a solid color with black tipping on most of the hairs but it is not in a candy cane effect like Brindle is. Expect your pup, if a sable to lighten up quite a bit as it matures.
