Since he was very young, when I opened the dishwasher to load it with our dirty(rinsed)dishes, our GD decided he would help me out. He used to actually stand on the open door but now he is too big.Tonight, I was loading it with a few things and again he was "helping". I pulled on his collar a bit to back him up so I could close the door. WELL, it seems that his collar ring had attached to something in the bottom rack. He started "bucking like a bronco" and the entire bottom rack of my dishwasher went flying and hit me in the shins. The dishes were mostly all over the floor broken into pieces. The bottom rack landed about 3 feet from the dishwasher. I guess we made quite a commotion as my husband, who was watching hockey on TV came running in. (normally, nothing short of an earthquake or something would disturb a hockey game) Our kitchen floor was a disaster. I'm not even sure what actually happened. The poor dog was really scared and I was pretty shaken up myself. It happened in a split second. We cleaned up the debris-I had a few cuts in my shins-but after it was all over my husband said not to get angry with the dog-that he was just scared. We had dinner and he never came near the dishwasher when I loaded it up again. I still cannot believe this happened and wonder if anyone else has a dog that likes to help in the kitchen or anywhere else?

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. Our labradoodle will prerinse the dishes for us and we have to be sure to put the steak knives down. But no mishaps yet. I'm glad everyone was ok. When we had the slideshow of doodles doing housework, there were quite a few in doing the dishwasher duty. Eva
Yes, pre rinse is exactly what he likes to do! It's funny though-when I am removing the clean dishes he comes over and looks at the dishwasher, huffs and walks away. What a brat!

Wow sorry to hear what happened to you, and glad everything turned out ok. My doodles come running when they hear the dishwasher open ( it doesn't even make a sound ) I call them my pre-wash cycle.
Happy to hear I am not alone. At least he doesn't stand on the door of the DW anymore, but he always did when he was small enuf to do so. We had to pull him off the door every evening during the loading time. He is too big now and would break it for sure. Your picture portrays exactly what happened-no harm done though, except for the broken dishes and the cuts and bruises on my shins.
Yep, Casey has done this "TWICE" and she has no fear of the dishwasher yet! some how she manages to get hooked on the lower rack and pull it out and she jumps to get free and everything goes everywhere. Luckily we have had no injuries.
I checked out the DW rack today and there are a lot of little curvey hook type of things. His collar ring must have gotten hooked on one of these as he was "pre rinsing" and when I pulled him back, he must have gotten scared and jumped around like a maniac-as I said before like a bucking horse or someting. It all happened so fast- I think I just froze in shock. Well-tonight he was a bit more reserved around the DW but was back at it again. I was stupid enough to load some glasses in the bottom-tall stemmed wine glasses-they were in pieces all over the floor.
I wonder if the commotion will deter your doodle from going near the dishwasher again.
We also have a D W "helper." I am afraid she will cut herself licking the cutlery basket. She runs like a bullet whenever I am loading the dishwasher.

She has taken knives off the counter and I found her with one on the stairs. She had the blade in her paws and was chewing the handle. Scary. I have learned not to multitask in the kitchen and make doodle safety a priority.

Glad to hear the injuries were not more serious.
Maybe we should go to paper plates….. :)
Paper plates? Hmmmm, good idea. I found him on my couch with a paring knife in his paws getting ready to knaw on the handle.
Brooksy also loves the dishwasher...and will come flying like a bat outta hell when he hears it open! I'm sorry that you had the accident..what a crazy mess, thank goodness no one was seriously injured!!!
Ughhh! I'm so sorry.

Max sniffs the bottom rack and licks the outside. Thankfully, I found Pledge All Surface because the only thing that worked previously was stainless polish and that is some workout to do daily!

I'll have to keep an eye out for this. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh my gosh, that must have been quite a sight to behold! My Chennie is a "pre-rinser" too, but I'm glad I read this and realized that we probably need to be careful about the knives, that could be a disaster! I'm hoping that my daughters begin to realize that the dog is being more helpful than they are and start pitching in (without the tongues of course).
I guess I'm lucky my GD stays away from the dishwasher. What a mess that must have been! Hope you're not too sore.
