Mine do start out milky colored then lighten, some turn almost a white chocolate
Thanks, wow that is a big change very pretty color! What color nose did they have as a puppy? Not a newborn about 8 weeks old.
What is the difference between 'cafe' and 'lavender'?
Cafe and lavendar are like cream and parchment. They can look an awful lot alike. The name depends on the color genetics of the dog and his parents. Cafe comes from Brown dogs bb and lavendar comes from black dogs Bb or BB. The V and R factor affects the shade, darkening or lightening, of the coat.
These factors usually are more obvious to the eye as the dog matures. About three years old is considered the latest the "true" color of the dog will show up. There is a really cool sight, about dog color genetics that I could add by hyperlink, if I knew how. I guess I will go to the "How to" forum and ask.SmileyCentral.com Look what you already taught me to do, Adina Thanks!
Here, I hope is a hyperlink to an interesting and clear discussion of color genetics. Tallai Australian Labradoodles Oh my stars and garters - it worked. Thanks Adina. Hope you enjoy the site. Vetgen also has info, but not quite as thorough. As i revisited this sight I realized that silver comes from black and cafe and lavender come from brown and may possibly have no genetic difference. I have heard poodles called lavender, but not cafe, so maybe just doodles get called cafe?

Abby's mom was cafe. Right now she is a golden chocolate color on the top centimetre of each hair strand, and a caramel/cafe on the bottom centimetres progressively getting lighter to her skin. (If I shaved her she would be cafe). It is a beautiful color and I have seen a few on this site.
Hi Tigger is a cafe doodle. He started out dark milk chocolate, turned a beautiful nearly red chocolate on his back, paws, and face. He always had a rose nose. I will hopefully attach a picture of him as a puppy ( about 3 months) and then as a 1 year old, clipped short to remove all the puppy mats and because swimming season has started in southern CA. The pictures came up in reverse order the first one is one year (clipped) and the second is three months

Okay Here is another try at embedding Tigger's photos 3 months and 1 year
Hi Barb,
My Bella is cafe as well was her mother. She started out as very dark choc & then lighten over her first year.
Around 8-10 months she looked like a teddy bear with a brown body & a light cafe muzzle.
