Yikes, I JUST made it before reading this part so did not put in food processor. The mix is now in the oven. Hope it'll turn out OK. Fingers and paws crossed.

Without the food processor, we get LIVA drops that look just like chocolate chip cookies!! LOL

I bet they were still yummy to the dogs.

I always put the liver and egg (along with shells) in the food processor. I can't stand that stuff personally. I then put it in a mixing bowl with the oatmeal and mix it up with my mixer. Then it does look like people oatmeal cookies. Most the time though I don't drop it by spoonfulls - i take half of it and put it on parchment paper - squash it down - put a pc. of wax paper on top of that and roll it out with a rolling pin. I remove the wax paper and score it into little squares with a pizza cutter - bake it 20 minutes and break the squares apart after baking. The whole process goes really fast.
Yay! I'm going to make a batch before I bring home my baby :D Oh, but you never mentioned how long you keep it stored for? In an airtight container :D
I'm about to make mine now---that I actually got liver! We'll have to compare notes on how they turn out!! :)
DId you ever make these? Did you use the egg shells?
Stephanie - I'm sorry I've been away for a couple days. Anyway, I divide them up into small baggies and freeze them and pull out a bag when I need them. I keep them in the refrigerator all the time otherwise. I think they'll keep a long time.
I'm making this right now ... I hope I have the right oats. I just realized it said quick oats and I bought old fashioned oats :/
Does chicken liver work as well? They are already in small pieces and would be ready to go in the blender without cutting up.
I haven't tried them. I don't know if they would blend creamy like cooked calves/cows liver does. I am sure the dogs would still like them. Try it and let us know.
lynne....I tryed your recipe but did not have the liver, only 3 small packs of chicken of the sea salmon. so substituted with that (mashed & broken up into very small peices) and used milk and 5 eggs with the oats. Mixed it all in a large bowl & spread the whole thing very thinly on large cookie sheet. after 15 min, took out of oven, broke into bite sized peices and returned to 180 degree oven for 3 hrs....this alleviates the need to refrigerate (not that they last that long!). By the way, all Dudes friends luv! luv! luv! these, too. Word of caution! We have started calling them "THE STINKY TREATS"
