Hi, I just have a quick question. When can I expect Beckett to sleep later? He does great now. He sleeps all night from 11 to 6 ish. But he seems to be stuck at 6 in the morning. i'd love it he'd sleep alittle later. He sleeps in his crate in my bedroom. He's completely housebroken now. He's been waking at 6 for quite awhile now. He's about 18 weeks old now. Is it still too early to expect anything later right now? He's a mini goldendoodle and weights about 15 lbs. Any info, etc would be great. When does everyone elses puppy wake?
It might take a while longer still. How does he let you know he wants to get up? You could just let him whine or bark a few minutes past 6 every day until you work up to an hour. Or take him out, let him potty, and plop him right back into his crate and nap a little longer =)
He starts at a whine, then barks to go out. He does go right when I take him out. I've been keeping him up for a alittle while, then feeding him and putting him back in his crate. He'll then sleep for an hour or two! So I think he's tired but maybe has to go out?? I'll be going back to school in a few weeks. I was hoping he'd be sleeping later by then. I have to get up around 7:30. But he's still getting up at 6. When school starts, I wonder if I take him out quick at 6 and put him right back in the crate if he'd go back to sleep for awhile, Then I'd get up, get ready for work, feed him and take him out again before I leave. I just keep thinking he's going to sleep later soon but it hasn't happened yet..lol. I don't mind as long as I know he's just too young right now. ..Not that it's his wake up call everyday!!..lol
My doodle got up at 4:15 this morning I tried to put him back in his kennel but he kept barking and I didn't want any one to wake up normally he is a 5:30 kinda guy bed at 9:45.
I wish he'd sleep longer I will try to put him back again if he wakes up at 4:15 tomorrow, because I was very tired today. I start back to work next Tuesday so 5:30 then would be okay even 6:00 ha hahah
Oh, I had those issues with Beckett. But it lasted for awhile when he was younger. I didn't want to wake anyone up either. He would bark and bark. He was stubborn. I think he woke up early for a month or longer! He sometimes woke up twice a night. I felt like a zombie at times. I never thought he'd sleep thru the night but he finally did. So I'm not going to complain about 6 too much!...at least not yet..lol!
Dogs and other animals are more driven by light than by the clock. he will probably sleep later when it gets light later.
However, Holly would get me up 2-3 times each night when she slept in a crate but, she was house trained at 3 months old and thus gained freedom for the night and sleeps through the entire night. She never needs a call of nature during the night.
It's our four Maltese who wake us up early. They don't have a big enough bladders and really need to go outside pretty early.
Luckily, being retired, we can get up early (it's cooler then too) and then take a nap in the early afternoon. All of our poochies get into this routine also.
Beckett sleeps thru the night. I just hope he sleeps alittle later as he gets older. He is completely trained now. I was thinking that maybe he would do better if he was out of the crate. But I'm not sure he's ready for that. Are there any signs to look for? I don't know if he's old enough to trust for the whole night. Maybe I should start a discussion on that topic too!

I let P out one night in our bedroom/bathroom and kept our door shut, he slept on the bathroom floor all night. P is 5 months old.

this is so true, we covered P's crate and he slept until 7:30, which is when the rest of the house was stirring! :) One time we stayed at a friends house with room darking shades and P slept until 8:30! I was shocked. And he too has an 11pm pee.
Oh, 8:30 ,I can only dream about that hour right now. I'd take 7:30! I'm sure he'll get there someday. I cover part of his crate. I'd like to try leaving him out of the crate all night. He is totally housebroken(and rings the bells) I could keep him shut in my bedroom. He's not quite 5 months old. Is there anything or signs to look for on when a puppy is ready to have the freedom to have the run of the house? (maybe the bedroom is a good start) Anybody have any thoughts on this? Should I start a discussion on this topic?
Sam is almost 9 months old and I know we couldn't trust him outside of his crate at night. He still does a lot of destructive chewing so would be afraid of what I would find when I woke up in the morning, lol!
He goes to bed around 8 at night and sleeps until about 7 or 7:30 so guess we should consider ourselves lucky!
Hi, right from the start, my DH let both our puppier out to potty about 6 and then just popped them back in their crate with a small puppy bone (milk bone) and they would sleep until 8 or 9 if I wanted them too. They both get a lot of exercise during the day though. Fetch, playing with each other, and swimming. Try covering your puppies crate with a light blanket or tablecloth like you would a bird, that should help with the noise making, especially if he's sleeping in your bedroom and can see you. Hope that works for you.
