Hi all. I am so so disappointed with how my Otto looks, that I can't even post any pictures of him. He just got groomed yesterday, and the groomer totally shaved him off (not down to his skin, but still very short). The first time she groomed him, I was SO happy. He looked so cute, with a floppy head, floppy boots, and a short body (but not shaved). Now he just looks like some bald skinny dog with a floppy head.

How long until he starts to look normal again?

Thanks for any advice. I guess I have to look at the bright side. He'll be easy to care for for a while, and won't get too dirty at the dog park.

It may be 2-3 weeks, but remember it will grow back : )
It Took Wilson's hair about 2 weeks I tell you what he was very happy to have it cut He was bouncier with the cut now its a little curlier and on Monday he has to go for a trim I want it short for the dog days of August. Wilson always shows his new doo off for the other pups. It grows back!!!! :=)
YES, IT WILL GROW BACK. RILEY HAD SO MANY MATTS....ALL OF A SUDDEN, THAT I HAD HIM CUT VERY SHORT...1/2" ALL OVER. 2 WEEKS LATER HE LOOKS MUCH BETTER, MATT FREE AND IT IS MUCH BETTER IN THE SUMMER, AS HE IS IN THE LAKE SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. MATTS ARE A REAL HORROR SHOW AFTER THEY ARE WET!!!! TRY TO ENJOY BOTH LOOKS. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER. HEIDI AND RILEY
Sorry to hear about Otto, hope his hair will be back for you soon. Did you get any pictures of him with his first haircut that you liked...if so..take that with you next time, ask them to groom him this way and tell them you did not like his last cut.
I got Fozzy cut to 1" in mid May, I am guessing his hair is back to about 2-1/2"-3" long. I am actually considering letting them shave him this next time so he dries faster out of the lake.
You'll be amazed how quickly it grows back. Within about 3 weeks, you'll be really liking the cut, I assure you. :-) We've all been down this road, believe me!
It won't be long until you are in need of another groom. Don't worry - hair ALWAYS grows back!!!!! I know how you are feeling. I am going through the same thing right now (it's been 9 days).
I like to shave mine in the summer. It isn't that I like the way they look as much as I like the fact that they dry out faster when they swim in the lake and it will also decrease the chance of hot spots. Your should grow out and look longer in about 3 weeks but I think you'll like the summer "doo" for convenience even if it isn't the best look for your pooch!
We had to do the same thing. I'm reading all the replies that say 3 weeks. Daisy was cut 5 weeks ago and it seems like it has barely grown out at all. Maybe it just looks a lot shorter because it seems to be coming in much curlier.
I'm hoping the curls relax as it gets longer. we really loved her wavy look.
Yes -our dood Thomas had thick wavy hair and after he was cut his hair is growing in thicker and curly. He was groomed June 29th and it is growing in very quickly though, but he was cutdown to about 2 inches on his body.
I so understand how you feel! Jake was groomed in May and he still does not have his hair back! I think the difference is if you have his face shaved or not. I thought he looked like a greyhound wannabe!! Once the matts come it is impossible to get them all...and I have him groomed every 6 weeks! He is easier to care for (on the bright side) and he probably likes it better...although he does not get stopped by admirers nearly as much! (poor Jake :o(
Yes, I think you might be right about the face being shaved (Otto's face is not - His head looks pretty large and poofy!) Now two days later, I'm getting used to his new look -- I think it's the skinny legs that really bother me -- I just loved his floppy paws. I loved how when he was running fast the hair of his paws would blow in the wind. Oh well.....I guess I'll just have to wait for it to grow back.

It certainly is reassuring to hear that other doodles have survived the shaved look, and that many people grow to like it.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
