Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any great advice about exercising doodles. Cody just seems to have an infinite amount of energy. I'll walk / run with him for about 45 minutes in the morning, again at night, and sometimes in the afternoon. He often gets to go to the park / dog park, and I try to take him as many places as possible. Plus, we do agility once or twice a week. Still, though, he has sooooo much energy. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I really want to just see him pass out for a little while. He's only 2, so I'm sure it's still a lot of puppy energy, but he seems to have more energy now than he did a couple of months ago. Does anyone have any ideas as to some new, fun, and exciting things I might try with Cody? I love spending the time exercising with him, so I'm hoping to avoid doggie day care. Thanks to anyone who replies!

I feel your pain.... I will be watching this post for ideas too.
I think you are doing the correct things I walk Wilson for 4 miles in the morning then we have puppy time late afternoon then we walk after dinner for 3 miles then more puppy time if the pups aren't too tired. I also toss the ball with him in the backyard by 9:00 he is exhausted. Our trainer always says a happy puppy is a tired one I guess you just got one doodle that likes to be busy, Wilson is very laid back and I am grateful. Good Luck
WOW.........that's a LOT of activity!!! That should be enough. I only walk my doodle once a day and sometimes not every day. Then we also play fetch in the back yard at night. Try having him chase a flash light that wares ours out. Also, do you do any off leash? We always have the marjority of our walks/runs off leash, and they get more exercise that way. My dh says try a treadmill.

Sorry wish I could help more, seems like your doing all you can!
Fetching?
maybe a treadmill??? kind of an expensive investment but maybe you could get one from a yardsale or moving sale
We have a lot of steps in our house and since she loves to be with me, I run her up and down the steps either to put things away or to just exercise her a bit if I feel she is getting antsy. I also make sure that we play tug at night as this wears her out so quickly at days' end--she gives up long before I do!
wow that is one energetic doodle :) I'd play some fetch with him (either indoor or outdoor).

Dexter was so energetic until we got Kirby - now they tire each other out very quickly :)
One of the things that really tires mine out is to play fetch in the water. They absolutely love it in the summer and can usually be counted on to pass out for several hours after a 60-90 minute romp. The swimming bck and forth is so good for them and I don't worry about them overheating like I would with frisbee or regular fetch.

Give it a shot if you have access to water or a pond.
Another Doodle =)

We only have 1 doodle, but we also have 2 beagles. The 3 of them play tag, wrestle and generally wear each other out in the back yard. I also play fetch with Harlow for 30 minutes in the morning before leaving for work.
Yes, I've always wondered if Giada is so good because we have another dog and they ware eachother out!!
I think that's my favorite idea so far. Do two cats for him to chase count? Probably not, huh?
We have 2 cats as well, but they grew up with dogs and early on learned not to take any guff. They completely rule in our house. All 3 dogs know not to even try to chase the cats. The cats just stare them down as if saying ' Make my day...'.
