First I wanted to say thank you to all of you that responded to my posting about the problems I am having with Ollie and his sleeping problems...I spoke with the vet today, and he suggested that I put his crate in our bedroom, didn't want to do that, but I will if I have to. He also suggested something called Rescue Remedy, he said it is drops u can buy at the natural food store, use a few drops on his treat, and see if that works...Well tonight i am going to sleep in the den with him, and see if that makes a difference with me there. If it does, I will move his crate into our bedroom....BUT, just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this Rescue Remedy drops???.....Oh, by the Way, today Mr. Oliver is 4 months old..!!!!!.....Thanks, Cheryl

I use it for my Bijon who is a nervous nelly with thunder and fireworks. I put it in the water bowl (usually all summer). It seems to take a day or two to kick in but it helps him stay calmer.
Yes I HAVE heard of this but have never used it. Our dog trainer "swears by this stuff" and has recommended it several times to us. You see, our dog sleeps fine all night- but between the hours of 5 pm and 10 pm- he is a total brat. He is an angel all day and then in the evening he starts acting up. He was 10 mths old on Saturday and this behaviour has calmed down a lot- but at least twice a week he becomes anxious, sometimes destructive (not often though) and DEMANDS attention. When he was four mths old- it was the WORST fo us. I should have tried this "Rescue Remedy" and I still may. It is not just a dog Potion-it is for people too and I hear it is quite effective in a holistic approach. I have never mentioned it to our vet-but if your vet suggested it-I think I will give it a try or at least have it on hand-just in case. Good luck. Actually-maybe we shud take it!!!
Just check and make sure it does not ontain XYLITOL. There were some posts awhile ago that it some formulations of it contain XYLITOL.
I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is Xylitol. and what can it do to the dog. I have never heard of this before, thanks
Xylitol is an artificial sweetner - extremely poison for dogs
THANKS- I will surely check this out. I am just not one to take pills myself unless absolutely necessary-if I have a headache-I just ride it out-I just don't trust a lot of medications. So I also do not give my dog anything that I am not sure about. You just never know-so thanks so much for the warning about Xylitol.
Oh- I forgot to mention- it is apparently highly recommended for rescue dogs too! I guess they have gone thru so much and that it would help them adapt to their new home.
Cheryl, My Jasmine is 3 months old. I put her crate in my bedroom, left a night light on. Wore an old tee shirt all day, then put it in her crate when I put her in for the night. No sleepless nights for me. Give it a try. It just might work!
Yes. My Gracie was a crazily energetic puppy. We used those to calm her. They are not like drugs, they don't get groggy or anything. They also come in a pill sort of form, kind of like a gummi candy. I just looked at mine, no xylitol. It seemed to help her (us). Actually there are entire books written about flower remedies. I get mine at a health food store, Wild Oats, but I know they can be ordered online. Some are made for pets. I use the rescue remedy made for people and it works just fine.
Just a follow up to this discussion. Last night I slept in the den with Oliver. I put him to sleep after walking him, around 11 P.M.. He gave me no problem going to bed, just went into his crate and laid down. I took m y blanket and pillow and laid down on the couch where he could see that I was there. WELL......He slept the whole night till 6:30 am...I heard him around 3 am, and told him, "Mommy's here, go back to sleep, and HE DID !!!!!....I took him out at 6:30 am, and he peed and pooped, and DH and I are thrilled to say the least....I guess he wants to be with us, lol...So tonight we are making room in our bedroom for his crate...Lets hope this was not a fluke, lol, but we did get a nights rest and that is the first time in 4 mos. that we have slept thru the night!!!!!!...But I think I am still going to get that Rescue Remedy to have on hand....Cheryl
Also, when Gracie was a pup we had sleeping issues. At first, I put a nightlight in the bedroom so I could see her and vice versa. That helped. We got rid of the light after a week or so of good nights.
Awesome! I don't think it's a fluke...I really think he was just a lonely pup feeling sad and wanting to connect. Let us know how it goes from here!
