I think Toby would have a lot of fun in a dog park where there was a water feature - wading pool or something. Does anyone know of something like that? We are in Cambridge, so I'd prefer not to drive for hours to find it! :)

Ooohh, Sandy you are so clever!! I have been thinking about this for a while - about how nice all the pictures I see of the dog parks in the States look. There must be somewhere like that here - I hope. 'Cos I know that Hartley would love to go to a dog park with a pond or something in to swim in. Hopefully you get some good answers.
Maybe you and I should just open our own dog park - only let in nice dogs, keep out women with nasty dobermans, and put in a shallow wading pool for Hartley and Toby. :)
As time goes on I am thinking about this more and more!! Members only dog park - all dogs have to have a behavioural assessment before they can join!! (Maybe the owners should have an assessment too!!)
Open one! Then you won't have to ponder your future anymore. :) I will pay to join.
I wish I could answer your question-but I know that Toby would love this. Our dog goes to an off leash "conservation area" in north Ajax Ontario. This is about a 15-20 minute drive east of Toronto for us, but it is worth it. There is acres of land with paths thru the woods and open areas with streams and ponds. Our guy comes home so tired after romping thru the water (which is not deep) and running thru the fields and paths. Unfortunately there is a lot of mud too after all of the rain we have had. So he has to be hosed off when he comes home but we are happy to do it as he is so happy and content. Perhaps, you could google "conservation areas" in Cambridge or even Kitchener/Waterloo areas and see what they have. Many of these parks have an off leash area for dogs now.
There are no water features in any dog park in K-W. The only water is for drinking. Most people go to another place that is not supposed to be offleash but all dogs I see there are off leash. Private message me and I can tell you where it is. Funny that you mention a pay dog park. I told my husband that if I ever win the Lotto I will buy land and make a proper dog park (sand and water features, staff, etc.) That way we can be sure that dogs are vaccinated and non aggressive.
I just send a friend request - apparently I can't message you or see your page until you accept. :) Wouldn't it be lovely to have a monitored, non-aggressive, proper dog park? There is only one in Cambridge, and it is just a fenced, barren plot of land in an industrial sector. After a nasty encounter with a doberman whose owner was equally nasty, I refuse to go back.
