I love to keep Phoebe looking like the shaggy dog but yesterday--in my infinite wisdom!--I decided to ask the groomer just to trim the fur on the insides of her eyes so that she could see better (we all joke about Phoebe needed doggy glasses or contacts) but NOT her amazingly long eye lashes or her highlighted muzzle. You all know where this is going , right? I was so very upset. Here is the question...do eyelashes grow back in length or merely fill in density as ours do? I am thinking I may need to fill in with some lengthening mascara for a while! Truly, only joking!!!
In a way be glad it was only the eyelashes, and not the rest of the body they came up with an excuse to shave her. I would think the eyelashes would keep growing on dogs...since they got to be that long in the first place...but than you wonder about that also...why do some dogs..and not others...or people?
I am no expert, but was told by the vet to trim them and that they do grow like the rest of his hair. Murphy;s were so long he could hardly see. I trim them about once a month and keep them about 1"-1 1/2" long, just so they stay up and out of his way. hope that helps.
That is a bummer! We had our guy trimmed for the first time last month as he is only 7 months. I was so freaked about trimming that I really emphasized not to cut to short. She did trim around his eyes and didn't touch the eyelashes but it is hard to get use to the bald eye area!!! My husband was more upset than I was. No worries about the lashes they will grow back as they are always replacing themselves!!
I must sound so vapid worrying about my puppy's eyelashes with all the things wrong in this world. It is just that she looked just like a doe with those long lashes AND I told the groomer not to touch them. If only people were better listeners...
The strangest thing is that the groomer, although new to our wellness center, had groomed Phoebe to my specs once before. I just don't know what she was thinking. I was very afraid the first time I took her as well but since i love the shaggy dog look, I have yet to have her clipped at all--she just gets bathed and has her ears and nails done. Now, however, despite my great effort with a dematter, mats have become our new grooming 'issue!"
You may not like the look, but I bet she;s happy to be able to see easier. I find Murphy runs into things and is not so quick with "catch" when I let his face hair grow too long.
