Okay - I seriously need to see that Toby is not the only non-perfect doodle out there! So many times people write about how wonderful their dogs are, how well behaved, etc. I need to know that there are other dogs Toby's age (14 months) that a) jump up on people, even though they know full well they are not supposed to, b) pull on their leash when they really, really want to go see something, even though they have passed obedience school demonstrating that they DON'T do this, and c) completely ignore my commands when in public if their is something more interesting going on.
Toby is truly a work in progress, and I love him dearly. We work hard at being consistent in our commands and expectations. But....today has not been a good day. We're bringing him to my Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner tonight, but we're only 7 minutes from home, so if we have a repeat performance, he'll be coming home to spend Thanksgiving evening in his crate....
Hey Sandy and Toby, I'm still chasing Thomas around several times a day with things he has in his mouth even though he knows darned well he is not supposed to have; toilet paper rolls, paper towels, he LOVES my new silicone oven mitt, all of our underwear, my hairbrush, the coasters from the coffee table, any kind of paper to shred, etc, etc...... BUT- at least he is not biting and nipping at us anymore!!! He is a huge brat, but the kindest, sweet natured goofy nutball I have ever seen. I am sure your Toby is the same. They are just so heartwarming that I guess their nuttiness is worth it.
Oh yes - Toby is not nipping or biting at all. Good thing - he's a big boy! Well, 70 pounds or so, but that seems big enough to me. :) He mostly enjoys John's clean or dirty socks. He never destroys them, just shows off that he has them, and then lays on them. He also enjoys coasters - I've had to hide them. But looking back at a year ago, he is a completely different dog.
