Male potty training & female potty training...? Is there a is difference..?

I need some help...! I have only had experience in potty training female dogs. I now have a 5 month old male that needs to learn some manners...he doesn't seem to "get it"...he pees whenever, wherever, while he's walking, playing, sitting, and just plain looking cute....! I think he's got it...then I'll see him pee just right in front of me while wagging his sweet little tail....help!

Sorry but our experience is that there was virtually no difference between the guys and our girl. As a matter of fact Shayna seemed to take longer to train.
I have not seen a difference but I know my male dog was easier to train. He always peeed like a girl and still does. We did get him neutered at 6 months, so maybe when you get your male neutered that might help, if he is not already... the vet said when they get neutered early like that it helps.....
Hi,
Yes, he was neutered at 4 1/2 months, and he does pee somewhat like a female.........but, he loves to urinate EVERYWHERE...! I have 3 beds in different locations of the house for my female 7 month old...he has gone to every bed and urinated on them....! Even a brand new one...UGHHH!!!! I take him out every 30 minutes to pee, and he usually does, and he gets his treat...but, he continues to pee all over the house....
Marcia, this sounds like marking.............which is more of a dominate issue.
I agree with Tamara....
Yes, I was wondering if he was marking...how do I stop this behaviour..? He has started to mount Kodie also...but believe me...Kodie is a dog that won't stand for it....she has about 20, or more pounds on him...and, she does put him in his place...
not sure maybe ask your vet, I hope someone else on here might have an answer for you.We wanted to get another doodle but is this what we'll be in for?!!!!
I don't know...I disagree. A 4.5 month old who HAS been neutered doesn't typically mark.
I know of dogs where the nutering NEVER helped! Marcia, if it continues, I'd talk to a trainer. Here is a great site no matter what it is they can help:

Thanks Tamara...I will take a look!
Rosco is the only dog I've ever house trained. He took a long time. Like "Little guy" he peed insanely frequently. I took him out 15-20 minutes for quite a while and he peed almost every time. He'd also be playing or walking over a dog bed and pee...his mind up in the clouds...totally oblivious to the fact he's peeing. He'd stop..sorta...and pee..but he wasn't too aware of it. NO warning...no sniffing around..just a little bend and weeeeee!

I'd make sure that peeing OUTSIDE was insanely rewarding for him and that he is confined when you can't keep your eyes glued to his boy parts! That way coupled with the HUGE party/reward he gets when he pees outside you can startle him with a loud NO!...OUTSIDE! then usher him quickly outdoors so he can finish and get rewarded.

I think some pups are just slower to mature in this area. Give it time...he may not be 8 weeks, but he's still young.

Is he a big drinker too?

If all else fails...get his urine tested to be sure he doesn't have a UTI.
Hi Adina,
YES...that is exactly how he is...just a "carefree" peer....he almost acts like he doesn't even know he's doing it....I do give him treats when he does go...and, he seems to know that was a "good thing"....I had him out, and was asking him to go for about 30 minutes....but, could not coax a drop out of him, so we went in....and, not more than 5 seconds in the house...he peed on my new rug...!
I am thinking it may take some time.....he may have some bad habits to deal with. I did teach him to sit in 2 days..! When he is in I either have him crated, or gated in the kitchen area...also, when he's excited to see you, he'll just pee.....we have ALOT of work.....! And, yes he does drink a lot of water....I make sure he doesn't drink after 7pm...
