Hi Everyone! We got the new Boxer/Poodle pup on Sunday, and she is adorable!
A little kennel cough that she is getting over, but the sweetest dog ever.
I have yet to post pictures-coming soon!

My question is more of a general question for multiple dog owners...

We had them meet at a neutral location, and there was a lot of sniffing, and they seemed fine.
At home, Rusty, our Doodle, constantly barks at Daisy. He follows her around, and just barks at her. He pokes at her like he wants to play, tails wagging, and sometimes she's responsive and plays back, and they are good for 20 minutes just jumping around together. Sometimes I think she's annoyed and she will snap back at him to stop. They do play a lot together, but it's the barking that I wonder about. Is it his way to show dominance, or just to get her attention to play? They eat right next to each other and share a water bowl with no problem, he just likes to bark at her.
Any suggestions??
Thanks!

When you find a solution, let me know (lol)!
My dogs love each other and get on huge barking kicks. It is usually saying they want to play with each other. Peri has this "ruf ruf ruf" bark to get Taquito's attention. The snapping back is a normal occurance too - but Taquito is the one that does that and it is reserved for times when he is tired and not in the mood to play. Taquito was our first dog - 6 year old chihuahua. Peri (mini f1 goldendoodle) has been with us for 5 months now. They are best friends but sometimes drive us to insanity with barking. We are working with Peri on quiet commands. I have given up on Taquito - he is like a grissled old guy that is set in his ways :)
I think it is a call to play, too, and hopefully he will settle down! When she does snap back it's because it's obvious she's had enough. They are freindly with each other though, so we'll just see how things go.
Thanks!
I think you can tell when their bark is saying "Hey! Play with me!" and when it's something less friendly. What I find interesting is that it's the puppy who's telling the older dog "I've had enough!" LOL Usually, it's the puppy who drives the older dog crazy! I think things will settle down very soon as they get used to each other and work out their own form of communicating.
And where, may I ask, are the pictures?
I agree. I am not as worried because tails are always wagging and they actually play. It is funny that he is bothering HER and not the other way around. Just hoping he is not going to consistently hover over her to try to be bossy :)
I will try to post some pictures tonight, for sure!
I agree with Karen - it will get better. I am now thinking back to that first week with both dogs and come to think of it, Taquito just followed Peri around barking at her. She was confused at first, wondering "what is that little squirt barking at...I'm just a puppy"! Taquito was probably thinking "what the he&*( mom, things were great - what is this little annoyance?". And you will start to notice a difference in the "hey wanna play" vs. "get away"....really soon :)
I'm releived that no one sounds too concerned about Rusty's behavior. I think he just needs a little time, and maybe an attitude adjustment LOL!
I can't WAIT to see pictures of a boxerdoodle!! Pls post some soon.
Sounds like perfect behavior to me.
Charli still barks at Samantha for attention and she has lived here 3 months! Samantha tolerates it 99% of the time but I learned to see Samantha's signs she has had enough. That is something you will learn over time - body language and the sounds of the barking and 'growling'.
Since the day I brought Calla home the dogs have never barked at each other. They do bark at lots of other things, though. Usually if they want to play one just goes and starts nibbling on the other.
Neely never barked at our older dog but our older dog has gave a sharp bark to stop or else or a low growel to say keep it up buddy just keep it up! Neely has started to bark at around 8 months all of a sudden. It ssounds like he wants to eat you but it is a hey I'm here I see you come play. As it is usually to strangers outside the window of passing by. He does it to people that come on our property to if he doesn't know them. But it is totally come say hi I don't know you yet. We strongly discourage it. He is pretty good to stop after one bark and being told quiet. If he keeps it up he has to go inside and away from the window. When he is quiet he gets a treat to reaffirm quiet is good.
Well, II'm glad to say the barking has subsided!!! Now he just follows her around trying to get her to run with him.
I think he realized the barking will not make her go away, so he just gave in :)
I thought she really was annoyed by him, but today, I tried to hold Rusty back so Daisy could go potty while they were outside, and instead of running from him, she nuzzled up right by him wanting to play.
They are really getting quite used to each other. Thankful it's not so noisy anymore!
