Does anyone have any experience with Cockpoos?? We would MAYBE like to add another doggie to our family but two doodles the same size as ours would be a bit "crowded" shall I say. I saw a cockapoo the other day-I actually though it was a medium or mini doodle. He was sooo cute and seemed very well behaved. Any info is appreciated.

As Jane said, cockapoos are half toy or miniature poodle, so you still have that temperament in the lineage.
I have a lot of experience with purebred poodles, and I love them, but I have to say that the standards usually are calmer than the minis, and the minis are calmer than the toys. I find a big difference between the toys and minis, the toys are sometimes extremely hyper. But all of it depends on the parents.

I think Buddy though-the large cockapoo owned by GBK is 1/2 standard poodle. Hence,his size. I would be happy with a 50 pounder this time and I know that a lot of the labradoodles and GD's talked about on this site are that size even though they come from a standard poodle. I guess we just picked the beast sized dog from the litter. He is the greatest though-I keep thinking we should stick to what we know. Yes he was the CHAMPION of all vampires but looking back I can see that we were just not prepared for this and did not handle it well. Besides-if another one was that nippy-I am sure he or she would take it out on our poor Thomas and I am sure he would set her straight!!

I have to say that Buddy was much more nippy than my medium labradoodle Kona 32lbs, but though their is a 30lb difference, they are very well matched in play and stamina. She will bite on him, and I tell him that it's Karma, she did not nip much at all with us. She is not anxious or wild and is a huge cuddler. Trish's red is adorable, I wouldn't hesitate to do another medium labradoodle :)

Peri's dad was a mini poodle and maybe it is just her particular temperament, but she is calming down and is not too nippy. I really feel like she is just a mini in size and has a fairly calm temperament, especially now that she is getting a bit older! Much, much more loving than she was at 4 months :)
And last night we had a breakthru - she came and actually wanted to sleep on her bed by our bed instead of her crate (she loves her crate).
I think the photo of the medium labradoodle is adorable! Go for it.

I have to comment on this because I just returned from a visit with my sister and she has a cockapoo who is and has always been a nasty little dog. He bosses my 63 lb LB around, growls whenever anyone approaches my sister and just has the "napoleon dog syndrome". He may be an abnormality but one thing I would suggest you do is to see how your bigger dogs do with a smaller one. Even though you'd think the bigger dogs would hold their own, I find that smaller dogs really intimidate my standard size LB. You want to have harmony in your house especially when you have a "pack" (anything over 2 dogs).

Yep...the only dog who has ever caused my 82 lb doodle to get his hackles up is a 12 lb shih tzu! I think it is common for many little dogs to have a "Napoleon syndrome", and I have noticed that many dogs do best with other dogs who are closer to their own size.

I am beginning to see that you are right. I think a 50 -60 pounder would fit in nicely with Thomas. Although, I have to tell you this. On Halloween, a couple with two small children came to the door. Of course Thomas was right there in the thick of things, greeting all of the children. This couple had a toy yorkie in their arms and they put him down to see Thomas as he was squirming like crazy. Thomas acted so dignified, and just nudged the dog with his nose but this little guy wanted to jump all over our 85 lb doodle. They eventually picked him up and I mentioned what a difference in size; 85 lbs vs 6 or 7 lbs. They then told me that this dog weighed 3 1/2 lbs!!!!! Thomas could have crushed him with his giant paw! A dog like that would be no fun at all to play with.
