I am looking for a Golden doodle puppy for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas. She has some allergies and have read that this will possibly help them. I am located in Ga and will pick up the dog. I am looking at getting one so she can get it Christmas day.

Melody, please be aware that it is not true that all goldendoodles are allergy-friendly or don't shed. Up to 70% of first cross doodles DO shed, some of them quite heavily. You have a better chance of non-shedding with F1B (Goldendoodle backcrossed with a poodle) or the Australian Labradoodles, but even then there's no guarnatee. It's important to do your research on this. In addition, doodle puppies go through coat changes as they mature, so even if a puppy doesn't bother your daughter's allergies, that's no guarantee that he won't when he gets older. Many doodles are given up to shelters and rescues for this reason. A responsible Goldendoodle breeder will not guarantee Non-shedding. It is also very important, at the least, that your daughter meet the puppy and spend time with him prior to your purchasing him. A Christmas day "surprise" would not be a good idea. Nothing is more heartbreaking than having to return a puppy to whom your children have become attached.
There are many breeds that are guaranteed not to shed and to be allergy-friendly. Standard poodles are among them and are wonderful smart easy-to-train dogs who are great with kids. You may want to consider them instead.
Please do some research before you bring a puppy home; Christmas surprises are nice, but not really the best way to get a new family member who will be sharing your home with your family for the next 12-15 years. Please take your time.

Yes They are outside dogs and cats. When she does go out and play with them she takes her allergy meds. She has grown up around animals all her life and 2 years ago she started having reactions. At 5 she used to nap with a lamb the I was raising on a bottle on the couch and never imagined 10 years later she would be allergic to them. She has a great outlook on it but just want this one to be for her. If she becomes allergic to a golden doodle then she will take her allergy meds when needed. Her father and I will enjoy the new member to the family when she goes to college.

Will your goldendoodle be an inside dog? They are great family dogs, but I don't think would do well outside. He or she will want to be with you all as much as possible. If I could take Timbow shopping with me I would. :-) If she has serious allergies and you still want a doodle I would take Karens advice and look for a f1b or an australian labradoodle. My F1 doesn't shed a lot, but he does still shed!

I'm at the end of my first week with my new puppy and even though I am enjoying it immensely I would not recommend bringing one home on a holiday... especially if you have large family gatherings etc. The first few days they require constant supervision and I mean constant! I think Karen's idea of a Christmas surprise visit to a breeder would be a much better way to go about it. That way you can learn more about the breed, the breeder and your daughter can pet and handle the puppies as well as the adult dogs to see what kind of allergic reaction she has. You should also be aware that good breeders have waiting lists for their dogs and if there is one left to go home by Christmas there is a very good chance that it will have a shed type coat because the non shedding, fleece coated puppies are usually picked first.

Julie is so right. What a hectic time to have a puppy in the home. Unless it's the best time for you because you will all be home from school and work for a few weeks and not going out much or having crowds over. And I agree, good breeders have long lists with reservations made while the female is pregnant and some sooner than that.

Well, they certainly are reasonably priced. I would make sure you see copies of the health testing results on the parents. I have not heard of them before.
I'm not comfortable with discussing specific breeders in the public forum. It just doesn't seem fair to the breeders who are members here and obey the guidelines. They can't post their litters or promote their own businesses here, so it doesn't seem fair for others to recommend & promote other breeders here either.

I agree with Karen. It really isn't fair to the sweet and great breeders on this site. You should look at our breeder section here on DK and find someone.
