- We have an F1 English Goldendoodle, Kona.
We had researched Goldendoodles for several years and were intrigued by the idea of having the wonderful temperament of a Golden Retriever combined with less shedding. Kona has been a wonderful addition to our family. He has been the easiest dog to train due to his remarkable intelligence and eagerness to please. We are also pretty sure he speaks English fluently. His dam was a blue poodle and sire an English Golden Retriever. Kona is very gentle and calm. He does love to play but when he isn't involved in activities he is content to rest quietly. When asked to do so he obeys easily. Kona loves to fetch and is by far the best dog we have ever had at dropping the ball or toy for us. Amazing. Our other dogs seemed to believe the name of that game was Keep Away. Clearly a problem with the trainers (us) but Kona wants to play badly enough he brings the toy right back and drops it for more fun. We are thrilled to have a doodle.
On Oct 24, 2010 we picked out a new puppy from Kona's sire and a white poodle dam to give to our DD who lives with us. Owen is cream with apricot "highlights".

- My husband runs Kona 3-5 miles 4-5 times a week. Kona loves to fetch inside and outside. He cuddles on the bed but doesn't sleep with us. I enjoy brushing and grooming him and checking his feet after his runs. It's great bonding time for us. Kona and Owen are a riot to watch as they wrestle and play. Both fetch and have fun.

Last Thursday we made an appointment to establish the dogs at a vet and to have Kona's ears examined. He had a double ear infection because while I was on the mainland for two weeks, no one remembered to take care of doodle ears. It's only his second ear infection in six years. Vet visit #1.

We have been in Hawaii since July 3 and 4. Moving to Hawaii with dogs is incredibly complicated and stressful. For four months I fretted and worried that I would not cross every t and dot every i and my precious doodles would be quarantined! I worried so much I could not actually talk about it. As many of you know, Jennifer (of Jennifer and Jack) has serious health issues. She was sent to National Jewish Hospital last year to try to find help for her Cystic Fibrosis and other unrelated chronic conditions. They discovered a hole in her heart and attempted to repair that with some serious consequences.

Several weeks ago I noticed Kona had a sore on his tail. It got to be the size of an almond with a black dot in the center. I took him to the vet. A new vet I had never seen before put him on a course of antibiotics. When the 10 day course finished the wound looked the same.

- Hey! Thank you all for taking the time to respond! Sooo we changed ozzies food back to the original and he only threw up 3 times in the week that we were gone! I'm still a little nervous, as that's definitely not normal. But it's an improvement from last week! I'm going to get him into the vet this week and see what they have to say! Thank you all again!!

Poor Kona...Ellie does the very same thing...and her dinner time is 5pm as well...it usually begins about 4:30ish and she starts to ask for her dinner and it just breaks my heart...half an hour must feel like a lifetime to our sweet dogs...nice chatting with you Bonnie...please give Kona a big hug from Ellie and I.
