Does your doodle love HIS bed...recommendations?

We've been thinking of getting Chewie a dog bed and am wondering if anyone has bought one they highly recommend...or one they definitely would advise against. Reasons either way.

My older doodle loves my bed, the younger one is crated at night. But he will alternate, especially if I'm annoying him by talking, or watching TV, with the floor and his cushy bed. I got the bed at Costco and it was quite reasonable.

Nugget has a dog bed from LL Bean that she loves. It's a circular one with a denim cover. It is the large size bed. (She weighs 52 pounds and is about 23 inches at the top of her shoulder.) She has had it since she was a pup (she's 3 now) and it is in great shape. I love it because she loves it, but also because the denim cover is very easy to remove to wash in the washing machine. I also dry it in the dryer and it has never shrunk a bit. I put a fleece blanket over it when it gets colder for extra warmth. (We keep the house temp pretty low.) The thing we were just saying about it today is that we wish we had gotten a rectangular bed. (LL Bean has those, too.) We think it would fit into a corner of a room better. Nug does have another bed that I bought to take traveling. It was much less expensive than the LL Bean bed. It's OK. She likes it when she needs to use it, but the material that it is stuffed with seems much less substantial than the Bean bed, so she doesn't really seek it out in the house.

Please keep in mind, that as much as Nug loves her bed, she usually does not spend the whole night on it. She's "allowed on" a couch and a couple of wing chairs, so she sort of goes up and downstairs between those during the night, too.

Funny, our daughter and I were just laughing about how her Marley has this great bed, Eddie Bauer I think, But spends most of his night time on her bed with her or on the tile in the spare bathroom. Ours does the same, so we never bought him his own bed. Would be a waste of money and space here.

Highly Recommend: A very nice Ashley furniture couch! And if Chewie shares, you might get to sit on it too!

I have two "doggie" beds for Lizzie, but 9 times out of 10 she is making herself comfy on the couch when we're sleeping. She'll lay on her bed if there is no room left on the couch due to piling on of me, dbf and a couple of cats. :-P We don't let her in our bed, but the couch is fair game. In the summer she's more likely to be found sprawled out on the tile in front of the AC vent.

LOL Missi! That's what I'm afraid of ...I'll spend the money and Chewie won't sleep on it. He is presently still crated at night, but I thought if he got used to sleeping on one during the day, he can eventually use it at night also.

Yeah, and just to be funny, Lizzie has a doggie bed made out of the EXACT same material as our couch. It matches, but Lizzie never uses it. Well, she drags it around if there is a cat sleeping on it, but that's about it. I guess if she wasn't allowed on the furniture at all, she would sleep on her beds.

If you really want Chewie to like and use his dog bed, you can teach him to do that by feeding him on it everyday for a couple of weeks, making the only place he gets kongs or piggies or whatever messie chewie he likes. If Chewie lives up to his name, I would recommend the "chew proof" dog bed from Orvis. It is pricey, but my doodle chewed up at least $75 apiece in a variety of other beds, before I decided to part with the money for the Orvis ones. One year later they not chewed at all and wash well. If you go that route, opt for the extra stuffing too.

What we have we got at Wal Mart 2 yrs ago...they aren't there anymore. But I recently learned of a brand that sounds Fabulous! Go to http://bigshrimpy.com -- every part is washable and it sounds like a well made bed. I do know 1 person who has this and she loves hers. Not cheap but doable for a single dog household.

Darwin isn't allowed on the couches, so he always likes to cuddle up on his bed. We went to Pier 1 and bought a papasan a while back. When we moved we decided it wouldn't fit into our apartment very well so we kept the cushion off of it and made it Darwin's bed. It's a large circular cushion, and it's pretty heavy because it's so "cushy" He LOVES it. I really like it because it is really thick, durable, and comfy. (comfy enough to be a chair for humans) It's weird, but it works for us. I think they are like 50 dollars or so and come in a ton of colors and patterns.

I love the bowser beds. We sell alot of them at work and my co-workers dogs all have them too. The come in various sizes, shapes and colours. The covers zip off and wash and the cushioning doesnt get flattened over time. They are expensive, but extremely durable.

Kaytlin- We are getting ready to order a Bowser bed today as a matter of fact. I am having a horrible time trying to decide on a size. Bailey is a mini that at 27 weeks only weights 23 lbs., but he is tall and long. He loves Piper's large bed (a different brand) and he likes to have his toys in the bed. The medium Bowser bed seems narrow and when he stretches all the way out, he fills the length of the bed. Bailey usually sleeps curled up, but he also will stretch all the way out and I think maybe in the summer when he is older and it is warmer that he might not sleep curled up as much.

Any thoughts on the size? I measured him last night while stretched out and from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail was 29"! I really am leaning towards the large to allow plenty of room, although if I could get by with the medium that would be nice. I just don't want Bailey to feel cramped in the medium.
