Even though we're not good at feeding Rouser at exact times (we feed him three times a day), he comes out of nowhere and "reminds" us that it's time to eat.

He wakes us up at the same time every morning.

I work from home and I can count on a nose thunking down on my keyboard exactly at 12:01 every day.

Repeat - same process at 6:00 every night.

It's now 6:15 and he continues to try to flip up my hand as I'm typing and he's been circling my chair like a sharkr.

Goodness! How in the WORLD does he keep such an exact schedule?

I don't know--but Mattie is the best "clock" we own. I am always amused when it is time to change the clocks and she gets all out of whack for a few days.
Thats funny....the same thing happened with my guys this Spring. I'm wondering if they'll be all confused when we "Fall back".
I get the same wake up thing with Lilly. She'll start nudging or licking my elbow if I don't get up right away when my alarm goes off. Great when I'm getting up for work, but not when I occasionally get to sleep in.
Clancy has a 'food clock' too.
Pretty amazing isn't it? My husband tells me Murphy will start walking back and forth to the window and looking out around outside when I am on my way home, like he senses it. I am never home the same time after work, and sometimes not home for days so how does he know?
It is amazing. I have heard my Murphy does the same thing.
I don't know how dogs have the time thing down, but our dog when we were children always came to school right at dismissal time to walk us home. We lived in the country but it was half a mile to school. He came over the fields and I guess waited for the dismissal bell to ring and zipped across to the school.
Also, our poodle always rushed to the door when it was time for my husband to come home from work (at 10:00 at night). We finally figured out that he could hear the motorcycle engine when it topped the hill. We also lived in the country in Germany and there were no other motorcycles buzzing around at night in that area.
So, I think they have some clue as to what is going on and they learn to associate our behavior with these clues.
Because they carry Paw Pilots!!! Or perhaps iPhones. They ALWAYS know what time it is and mine even knows who is calling on the phone when it is 4:15!
Paw Pilots - love it!!!
LOL! Paw Pilots!
I don't know but I've been wondering the same thing lately!
Cooper seems to know when its time to get up! She will start pacing about half an hour before the alarm goes off, and sniffing my face (the occasional morning kiss too). One the alarm goes off she "desperately" needs to go potty - but once shes outside shes too excited and forgets

Merry, my cat, knows EXACTLY when its dinner time - she starts reminding us about half an hour prior to the animals set feeding times

I often sneak home quietly and peek through the lounge window - Cooper is usually fast asleep, though the cats seem to hear me coming. Them running to the door to say hi wakes Cooper
