I'm due to travel on Wednesday to collect my puppy from Scotland in the UK.  I had it all worked out.  Early flight to Edinburgh, hire a car, drive to breeder (2hours) collect puppy, drive back to Glasgow airport, leave car back, taxi to Car Ferry (4 hours) and be collected in Northern Ireland then a two/three hour drive home.  That was` mad enough but I just decided to do a double check with the Ferry, and they just told me catagoricaly no way could I travel with a puppy as a foot passenger.  Even though they said when I booked that I could travel with the puppy but that he would have to be crated and stay in a room on the car deck.   I got nowhere with them on the phone and I obviously can't take a chance.

So now onto Plan B. I take the 7.15 ferry to Scotland (it's a three hour drive from here) drive 3 hours.  Pick up the puppy and go back the same way on the 8pm sailing.  Oh and also it's cost me a fortune with no refund for the other fares.  So, that's 12 hours driving in total. (6 with Riley)  Am I mad....??? I have booked it so please wish me ENERGY and good luck on this coming Wednesday.

I am thrilled for all three of you! Riley, partner and you! What a wonderful and exciting time you have had waiting patiently for this little guy. I know you are going to love him to pieces. Be safe and enjoy the journey! Cannot wait to hear how your DP (doodle partner) reacts to his present arriving early!

So excited for you, think of it as an adventure.  You will look back someday soon and laugh at what you went thru to get him!

My DH adds, "go Rory" to your partner!

If you knew my man you wouldn't exactly say help.  Love, yes but help no.  Now my ex hubby is the best helper ever.  He used to clean the kitchen, put the wash on and iron the clothes before bed every night.  He's also a great father and brilliant with all animals. Does all the poo stufff too and minds my other dog when I'm away (he can't wait for Riley to arrive)  I'm very very lucky when it comes to men as I actually have two. Actually lucky isn't exactly the right word because  they both need serious minding (like all men) LOL

Oh yes and Rory used to practice in Carton House Golf Club  where the Irish golf academy is which is directly across from our cottage and my partner watched him.  We also had a bet on him winning at 22/1    Happy Days!!

Godspeed! My theory being a corporate travel agent for almost 20 years - sometimes there are reasons travel plans don't work out- if it was mention to work out it would have - I always say not to press the powers that be and travel the path of least resistance. Safe travels! Keep us posted!
So frustrating to have to change plans at the last minute--but I'm glad you thought to double check with the Ferry!  You can do it.  Maybe you can stop at a nice hotel on the way home...?  Best of wishes for your loooong journey!  Take plenty of breaks, both for yourself and for the puppy.  You'll have some great stories.  :)
you can do it! Just think of that cute little puppy!
Oh Nicky!  I wish you energy and pray for smooth "sailing"!  I am so excited for you.  This will be a great day for you.  There isn't anything better than a new puppy!  Rua sends her best to her Irish friend Riley!
You can do it Nicky. With all of that adrenaline going with the excitement you will do just fine.  Just take it slow and easy and relax and enjoy your little man.  Lots of stops and hugs and you will be fine.  Is there an option to spend the night somewhere if you chose to?  We will all be holding our breath waiting to hear from you...I guess that would be sometime on Thursday???  I am just so excited for you...it seems like you have been waiting for 6 months or longer.  Finally it is all coming true.  Take your camera!!!!  You will be in my thoughts all day...Hugs!
How exciting for you! I can't wait to hear updates and see photos. And good luck!
I haven't read the other posts, so by now your problem might be solved.  But why don't you take your flight and rent the car for the drive back by way of the ferry? Would that work?
Hi Nancy, That  does make sense and was the original plan but  as I am traveling to another country I couldn't take the hire car onto the ferry home.  I was going to leave it at a nearby airport and go as a foot passenger with the puppy crated for the  journey and was going to be collected at this end by a friend.  Problem is they NOW say foot passengers can't travel with pets, hense the last minute scramble and change of plans!
Nicky - how unfair of them!  But please don't panic - us doodles moms would walk over burning coals to get our doodle babies so YOU CAN do this.  Just get some rest and while driving keep your eyes on the road.  Saying a prayer for you for safe travels and we are so excited to meet your puppy!
