Is anyone using Nexgard, oral flea and tick preventative? Opinions anyone?

Our Vet recommended Nexgard for fleas. It's made by the makers of Front.ine, but is a beef flavored pill. Same coverage for fleas and ticks, for 30 days. Wanting to try as the topical presents a problem in the summer with dogs swimming several times a day. Anyone have and insight into this new product?

My vet gave me samples too. Not sure about this.
We are on our 3rd month, no problems. It's just too easy compared to the messy topical. I'm going to stick with it.

We started it July 1st. Seems fine. Lucca loved it!!! The only issue I notice is that Izzy is itchier. Dry skin is a symptom. I give her 1 -1200 mg fish oil per day. Thinking about giving her 2/day to see if this helps.

We gave Lexi her first dose last week, and it was effortless. She chewed the pill happily, she had no signs of discomfort or side effects, and there was no icky application process. My vet did say that you still need to check for ticks all the time because it works like Frontline - it's not a repellant. She even suggested I keep using my cedar oil while on the meds...

I just called the manufacturer and learned that Nexgard and Frontline products "control" fleas and ticks, whereas Advantix "repels and controls" them.  I was told that Nexgard kills the ticks only after they have bitten the dog, thus there is a chance of the the dog getting Lyme Disease is greater. I am going to stick with Advantix.

Last month, I decided to give Nexgard a try -- well, not me, my dogs! Besides being so much easier to use than the Advantix topical, it worked!  Neither dog has had a single tick since using it. I'm ready to give them their second month's dose.

Charlie is on his second month of using this product.  Between him laying in his baby pool and going on therapy dog visits I was having a difficulty finding a time to put on the topical (he used Vectra 3D).  I love this product.  He takes it very easily and has not had any side effects from it.  I bought a six month supply and we will re-evaluate after that time.

Bailey has been on it for two doses now and all is going well.  She eats it like a treat!

I have been using Advantage +, despite my reservations with topicals - it's been working fine.  When I ran out, I discovered that with so many thoughts on Frontline (vet and the state we are moving too requires it for admittance) I decided to go for Frontline.  It didn't work on either dog, or the cat and my lovely Doodle girl had a reaction to it.

I apply topicals right before bed, so that they can sleep in their crate that night and not rub it off or lick it off of each other - which means by morning all of it has absorbed. That means it can't be washed off.  The vet said I should consider the Nexguard.... of course I am confused by that, because if she reacted to the topical - what will happen with a pill? Never mind that we have to wait some time before anything else. We even sent her to the groomers for a dip and bath - still can't apply a thing for another ten days.   The fleas have taken over, I'm worn out and totally fretful over this.

I'll be going back to the Advantage for all my critters - but it looks like my move has been cancelled due to this and that really sets my blood to boiling.  One doc says Trifexis, another says Nexguard - neither are tried and true and no way will I go there.

I am sorry you and your doodle are going through this. I never heard of a state requiring any treatment for ticks and fleas never mind a specific product. What state is this?

Thanks for you kind words, but the state of Hawaii has extremely strict laws regarding animals coming in and they do require Frontline as part of that package.  The process in total takes months to gain approval and even then there are strict final protocols to be followed, they allow absolutely no wiggle room.

What a predicament.
