My Bailey ( mini and about 25 pounds ) loves Himalayan chews however I quit giving them to her because she can bite off a pretty big piece and has swallowed pieces whole. I realized this the next day when the whole pieces came out the other end. I would think that a bully stick (the odorless ones) would be a better choice for the plane ride. Depends on when you are flying as the odorless ones must be ordered on line. Or maybe an antler?
I'm sitting here wishing my dogs were small enough to fly in the main cabin of a plane. We often discuss when we will be ready for a long driving trip with 3 50+ pound doodles.
Anyway... If I were doing this, I'd get a mild sedative from my vet. I'd rather not have an agitated dog for 4-5 hours (counting airport time). Otherwise, do you ever use real marrow bones? Those aren't likely to be digested quickly and can keep her busy for a long time. If she's never had one, it's even more of a treat!
I really wouldn't try anything she hasn't had before. For me, anyhow, I'd try giving her something tried and true, that you know she doesn't have any problems gnawing or eating. :)
I would stuff a kong with some peanut butter and pieces of kibble or other little snacks you can wedge in there and she can work on getting it out for a while.
