Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My husband and I just got our second mini Goldendoodle tonight. She is very cute and very tiny. She is almost 8 weeks old and is 2 LBS.. Her mom is a 16 LBS. F1 mini Goldendoodle and her dad is a 4 LBS. toy poodle. How big do you think she will be full grown?  Also, is it normal for her tail to be docked? Ava our mini has a normal tail and I love it. I honestly didn't even notice it was docked until we were on the way home. Does anyone here on DK have such a small doodle and does anyone have a docked tail?? Thanks in advance :)

I think your girl will be very small. One of my doodles just had to have part of his tail removed due to fractured vertebrae. It made me very sad. I think tail docking is a cruel and unnecessary procedure. Certainly your breeder should have let you know this was being done. we do have some doodles on DK with docked tails. Enjoy your pup.

Even if she is a bit poodle-y, she will still be special! And the haircut makes a big difference! But boy, is she small! When she is 4 months old, double the wt. and you should be pretty close to the final wt. I am going to take a wild guess and say 10-14 pounds...I have heard of these tiny doodles called Micros. She really is too small to be a mini--

Looking forward to pics!

Can you please explain what you mean about the haircut making a big difference. What's involved. I want my pup to be Doodle perfect. What are the specifics I should ask for with the cut?
Mine is an Eng teddy bear petite doodle....boy that's a mouthful!!

Rodney, I have a great groomer who really understands doodles--she's in downtown Deerfield. Her shop is called Scruffy to Fluffy and I can't say enough good things about it or her. If you go, tell her Sadie and Becka sent you.

Congratulations on your new Doodle!   How exciting for you and your family. Sounds like she will be very tiny!  Enjoy and have fun:)

Our " petite" doodle was 3.4 lbs @ 10 wks. Her mom was a 24 lb F1 & her dad 5.5 mini poodle.
We expect anywhere from10-15 lbs. regular tail here.
Good luck....

Congratulations on your tiny, new puppy! I had no idea doodles tails were ever docked... I wonder what the purpose is? Have fun with your new baby :) and I can't wait to see pics too.

Hope so!! We travel a lot and I needed a plane cabin friendly size. I also had back surgery and needed a scoop able pup. So far so good :)She's a cutie
Oh my, I can't imagine why the breeder would dock a doodles tail. Not to make you feel bad, but the tail is what I look for whenever I see a doodle as they are usually so distinguishable to a doodle. Besides that, it sounds so painful, ouch!
My mini was only 3 lbs when I got her so I had a tiny baby too. She is now 4 months and is about 11.5 pounds and I would imagine she will end up full grown around 22-25 lbs.
you may ask your breeder if the entire litter had docked tails. My breeder had one pup in my litter with a docked tail and it was due to an injury so it was heavily discounted. I think she took $800 off the price.
I definitely agree with the others that docking a doodles tail is not a normal practice and if that breeder does that on all her doodles it should be advertised as such.
Congrats on your little one:)

What I mean about the haircut, s,  is that a doodle cut has a totally different look--just take a look at pics on this site, taking into account your doodle's hair type--(groomers can't make the hair straighter or more curly for example) and decide on the look you like best---some people have a shaved muzzle on their doodle which is more poodle-y and others prefer a full face of hair! Also, the hair on top of the head should slowly get shorter and gradually blend with the neck in a doodle--if there is a poof of hair on the head and then a closely shaved neck with no gradual change, that is poodle-y to me.
