Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

As per my blog post published last night (http://www.doodlekisses.com/profiles/blogs/welcome-home-winston), I've brough home a new doodle. He's 5 years old and He's sweet as can be, oh so affectionate and gentle. His name is Winston. I like the name, but i don't love it. I was thinking I might give him a new one to signify his fresh start. I sort of feel like the old name carries the baggage of his old life of neglect with it. It would be nice to give him a new name to signify his new life of love and happiness. However, I'm worried a new name will confuse him and will add more stress during this time of transition. He's already quite sad about what happened to him.

What do you guys think? New name or keep the old name? If new name, any thoughts or suggestions?

He is absolutely adorable, and he has the sweetest look on his face.

I wouldn't worry about any bad associations with his name, and I like it. I think it suits him, he's a dignified kind of guy.

Congratulations!!!  He is a very handsome boy!
Sherri, congrats on your new addition.  We decided to give Ollie a new name when we adopted him a few months ago (he was formerly named Oscar).  Since he was getting a new home we gave him a new name (I wasn't in love with the name Oscar).  He adjusted just fine.  Dogs don't have an emotional attachment to a name like humans do.  Since he has been with us he has also gotten several nicknames too.  :)
I think he will do just fine with a new name. Cooper has picked up several nicknames along the way and answers to them all!
I don't think it would cause too much stress for him. :-) Darwin answers to basically any name because we have so many nicknames! I think he's perfectly capable of adapting to a new name. He looks like such a sweetie!

I'm starting to lean toward keeping it. He comes happily when I call and I already started calling him Winnie (as in "The Pooh"). I wonder if he likes honey? :o)

Oh how I adore his giant doodle nose!

Winnie!  I love it.  My doodle basically has three different names (or nick-names) that she answers to.  I agree with the fact that it will not affect him if you change his name.

Good luck on the new guy...He looks so sweet...and a little sad : (  But  here's to a new and happy life!!!

As for the name I am partial to Winston.  I lost my Winston last year to heart failure and he was the sweetest fur baby ever!

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

Congrats!  I like the name Winston/Winnie, too.
Have you considered the name Sam?? You could have Sophie and Sam, or better yet, Sophie-Bear and Sammy-Boy!
He is so cute--and I love the idea of Winnie (the pooh!) When I adopted Mattie, she was called Addie so the names were so close, that it was no problem. She is occasionally with her former owner (the breeder had her until she was 7 months old) and she goes back to calling her Addie--there is no sign of Mattie ( who is also known as Matilda) even noticing the difference.
Congratualtions Sherri!!  I can't believe you finally did it!!!  He is adorable!  I can't find your blog:(  I can't wait to hear the whole story!!
