Try checking petfinder for dogs that are in your area. Be sure to check all your local shelters too, I would imagine that Atlanta would have a bunch. Dogs that have been socialized to city sounds are best suited for city life. My adopted doodle has a bunch of fear issues and he would have had a nervous breakdown if he had been rehomed into a city environment. Also check our the regional listings on the DRC website. I try to update it each week. you never know when you will see the perfect dog in your area: http://doodlerescue.org/group/doodlesinneedinnorthamerica/forum/top...
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/24786974 -- here is a great older girl that finds herself needing a new home
A coworker just picked up a dog, same issues you were having and they were able to get one at one of the local pet adoptions at Petco. They were told they don't screen and the adoption fees are always lower! Wishing you luck, I had the same problems then got one from a breeder with no questions?? Cost more though!
Jolene, although this may be true for some organizations who attend recue events at PETCO and UNLEASHED stores, it is certainly not true for all of them. Ameican Maltese Rescue attends UNLEASHED rescue events and our criteria is the same at the event as it is for any other rescue. We never adopt directly from an event. The event is just for getting rescues and adopters to meet each other. The prospective rescuers need to fill out all our paperwork and a home visit is required.
OTOH, since our Maltese are small "lap dogs" we are not as fussy about an adopted having a yard.
Perhaps you might thing of a smaller dog, I would hate to have Holly cooped up in an apartment.
It all depends on the dog I guess. Darwin is very low energy and is more than happy in our small apartment. We take him on a small walk every day and he gets to run free a few times a week in a grassy area near our house. That being said, I do think that the majority of Goldendoodles/Labradoodles are pretty high energy so I can understand why so many rescues have that restriction in place.
I don't think that it would be any better or worse than a lab and poodle or golden and poodle cross. it would just depend on whether the pup gets the coat gene from the poodle side or the berni side.
I adopted my Stuart from Adopt a Golden Atlanta - he was an 8 week old Golden Doodle. They had gotten several litters and the adults from a closed down puppy mill. I was from out of state - something that they don't usually do but they listened to me when I insisted that as I already had a doodle I would be a good choice for a puppy. I have a yard but no fence. I filled out the adoption application and sent in photos of my house and yard. Then I phoned them to really get their attention. They do charge and it wasn't cheap, then the puppy was sick $$$$ but he is the love of my life so check them out. Of course they might not have any doodles at the moment but you never know. Good luck!!!
You might also check your local Craigslist. Unfortunately, doodles end up on Craigslist for sale or for free. I have seen several in my local area and there have been many discussion here on DK, some of them recent, about doodles being sold on Craigslist.
Yeah, there's a bunch of them on the Atlanta Craigslist right now. So sad!

Sorry, I see you are looking for a Goldendoodle rather than Labradoodle but there are also GD's found on Craigslist. The ones in the Atlanta area right now look like they are puppies from either a BYB or PM so I would be careful about those...
oh, so sad to read these--but the pup listed looks like he needs a new home FAST!! And a haircut!
Ginny, I thought the same thing about that poor puppy. Can't those people even cut the hair away from his eyes for pete's sake??? He needs to come and visit you! :)
