My little girl was spayed today. Of course, we are very traumatized that we did this to her. We feel so guilty. Everything went fine, thank goodness, and she's home with us now. She's acting kinda "drunk"...very dazed. She isn't wagging her tail and we can't see any love in her eyes (like usual) but those things will return.
Our instructions say that we can't allow her to play for 2 weeks. I don't remember it being that long with our other dogs (through the years). They were feeling better after 1 week. We'll do as directed, though, and keep her on a leash.

Just wanted to report that Penny is like a "new" dog this morning. She's up and around. She greeted me when I woke up (she didn't even acknowledge me yesterday). She's eating good and the "internal plumbing" is working fine. I feel so much better (as does my husband) because Penny is already showing signs of getting back to her old self. It'll be tricky keeping her quiet for so long--almost impossible to do with a puppy.
Gracie was quite out of it that evening and part of the next day. At the time, I was pretty grateful about a little break in her fiesty attitude. I was also worried since she wasn't herself. She bounced right back though with no issues. She didn't get a cone. We just watched that she wasn't chewing or licking her stitches. My bet never said anything about not playing, but I made sure she wasn't jumping or doing gymnastics. ;)

They bounce back pretty quickly. She just had the lingering aftereffects of the anesthesia yesterday. Now the fun begins in keeping her quiet and less active. Good to hear she is better !

Aw, I hope Penny has a speedy recovery!  My girls wouldn't leave their stitches alone - they're both lickers.  I tried not using the cone with Eloise (she was sent home without one) but she opened up part of her incision, on a Saturday night - so that was awesome.  :\  We were back at the vet first thing on Monday morning (it was slight enough that we didn't need to intervene sooner, but that freaked me the heck out!)  She had to be re-stitched and then she wore the cone for 2 weeks.  She's my big chicken doodle, so the cone scared her enough that she didn't act like her normal crazy puppy-self...I felt bad she was scared, but glad it keep her calm.  Beasley didn't care about the cone - she just slammed into everything in sight, but at least she couldn't bother her stitches.  :)

Another update: So far, Penny is pretty much staying quiet on her own. She was outside in the yard yesterday and we observed her the whole time. She walked around and laid around and that's it. She apparently wasn't feeling up to playing with Lexi (our lab mix) or "tormenting" Suzy (our beagle mix) so I'm glad she's being quiet. However, indoors we had to stop her from rough-housing with Lexi several times yesterday.
Penny is licking her sutures slightly. But we are also observing this. We'll know if and when she licks too much. So far, nothing has changed in the suturing and it looks fine. She's not tugging at the stitches and she's not scratching the area with her hind legs. Our other dogs (thru the years) licked the area too with no problems arising. Knock on wood.
Off subject: Last night my husband and I were at a mall Christmas shopping. There was this kiosk that was selling calenders. Of course they had dog ones; even a Goldendoodle one. One month, there was a dog that looked exactly like we think Penny will look like when she grows up. (I hope my hubby will buy me this calendar). :-)
