SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE.

I have such a knot in my stomach.... Tomorrow we go to the specialist. at first I was glad to go to the specialist then it dawned on me that we need to go to the specialist.

Jack has not eaten more then a few mouthfuls of food in the past few days, He is drinking fluids though. He is a bit more perky then when on the antibiotics but I can tell that the infection is getting worse because he is licking and licking non stop.

Please send us your prayers that nothing serious is wrong and that we can fix whatever it is. My heart will break in a million pieces and more if the biopsy results do not turn out well.

Jack and I decided the month of September IS going to be better to us then August was so it has to be good news...

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE

I want you guys to know how very much each of your comments mean to me. I sat and read them repeatedly as I was waiting on Jack in between testing....I did not leave him except when I had to go to the bank to transfer more money into my account so I could pay them....

We have more answers but still not the total picture.. What we know is that on ultra sound Jack's adrenal glands are completely atrophied. That is the "mass that they other doctor thought that she saw on ultrasound" The adrenal glands are right above the kidneys. His kidneys appear to be normal in structure for the most part. We know since he is concentrating his urine so well that he has at least 50 percent or greater kidney function

He does not have any masses or tumors or strictures. She believes that Jack is positive for Addison's disease, with the atrophied adrenal glands, their really isn't any way they can be working, some blood work indicated that he had it but we are waiting for the actual coritsol levels to come back to start him on the corteff and florineff, I have the drugs, I am waiting for the doctors call.

His bowels are of concern which is most likely the cause of him not eating and his constipation. His bowels are 1.7 mm larger then they should be... That of course needs to have a biopsy.

As far as the urination, pee pee licking issue. Well, this kidney specialist does not believe that Jack has had infections all this time... She has all his records and can see the high PH but she said nothing in there indicates infection, which is a little confusing since Jack's regular vet said that she has seen infection under the microscope... I don't know. I am use to doctors not agreeing, it is the story of my own life.

She thinks Jack has an underlying neurological problem that is causing burning and painful urges to urinate and to lick his penis.. She is not sure on that and even went as far as to say his licking that I perceive as painful could actually be him masturbating.. Yes I almost fell out of my chair.. and quickly told Jack if that was the case he is going into doggie porn to pay me back for all these costs!!! The vet said that does not change any of his other problems and it is very good we say his adrenal glands and bowels before something more serious happen.

She feels like Jack is having spasms when he urinates and once we get the culture results back that were taking by sticking a catheter in his penis up into his bladder to get a sterile sample we will go from there.. Most likely if it is an infection, they will treat it and it will finally clear up because we will be supporting his adrenal glands now so his body will be able to fight the infection or he will start on anti spasmatic meds.

Is this a lot to deal with ?? Heck yes.. am I grateful? Yes.... I am so grateful that none of this is life threatening. (as long as his bowels are okay and not cancerous, which she did not think they were) All of this will be treatable. Ideal no, sad yes.. I sat today next to an older women who had to put her dog down today. She was sobbing and I couldn't do anything, it was like I was paralyzed with sorrow for her. My sweet Jack with an IV in, an entirely shaved belly and not feeling good went over to her and put his head in her lap.. He was already standing on the chairs....

She hugged him and cried.. I just looked at the floor and told her I was sorry. The other women next to me had her dog there because it was so sick from the chemo and radiation that it needed treatment..... I think I was blessed to sit in between them, to see that in spite of the fact I never want anything wrong with Jack, other people are suffering so much more then he is, and then I am.

So instead I prayed for that women who put down her only companion, and the other dog that had cancer. I thanked God I have insurance on Jack because I spent ever last penny and I am not exaggerating when I say I wiped out my checking and savings account paying for his treatment today and we are not done.. I will be reimbursed 80 percent.... otherwise right now you would see me selling my car or my furniture to pay for his tests next week.

I have a grateful heart that Jack came home with me. That he is snuggling his razor burned tummy next to my butt as I type this. That he is here and will be here.

I can not say it enough if you do not have a few extra thousand dollars hanging around, please get health insurance for your dog.. Everyone's dog is healthy until they are not, then it is to late to get it.

More tests to come. for now, Jack and I are snuggling in bed. I managed to manipulate, I mean convince my doctors to let me do my medications at home so I am not going in patient at this point and that is another reason to be grateful.

How incredible odd to have a dog that has the same disease as me... At least I will know how he feels......

Thank you again
