Hi Michigan Doodle lovers!

I'm so glad to see a Michigan group.  Are there any doodle group events coming up?  I would love to meet other doodles and their people.

Karen, thx. for the info.  I will explore this support group conversation. The vet has put him on 20 mg. of Loratadine per day. I have also started to apply "Emu oil"  to his underside which is kind of flushed. The vet mentioned Ragweed and possibly mushroom wnvironmental (seasonal ) possibilities.. They also advised we watch his intake of wheat and beef. He is on Diamond's Natural "Chicken and Rice" formula for dogs.  He gets a cup in am and a cup in evening. Nothing other than snacks. So we are going to watch snack intakeand content.

Hi Jim, we have lots of information on skin allergies and issues in the Health and Medical Group, and also there is an Atopic Dermatitis support group for dogs who have been diagnosed or suspected of having "skin allergies", which are more properly known as seasonal, inhalant, and/or environmental allergies and are a disease of the immune system. This is genetic and very common in Labs and Goldens. Ragweed is one of the biggest allergens. Benadryl is not recommended, Claritin or one of the other 2nd generation antihistamines work better and don't cause drowsiness. Lots of other info and tips on how to control the itching in the Health group.

Hello Michigan-ders and Doods !

I thought I was a member of this group then just realized I was a member of "Midwest" Doodle owners. Buddy and I live just south of Saugatuck/Douglas on the Lake Michigan shore in the small town of Fennville. We are on 30 acres of sand dunes and pine forest ....  surrounded with vinyards and apple orchards. We are struggling with skin allergies... possibly from Ragwead, flea treatments, etc.  He is constantly itching and licking.  Vet put him on antihistamines yesterday. Now he sleeps a lot !!!   Any of you have an issue with fleas this summer in Michigan. Or skin problems?  How are you controlling or dealing with it?   thx. for any input. JIM
