When Hannah started Agility if the dogs in her class were not to good at being off leash ...we started training them with leashes on, we also do a practice exercise to get the dog to be following us. If you put your dog into a sit, stand behind her and move from middle to left, than back to middle, than middle to right, the dog should be following with her eyes and head...Not their Body..if they get up do not give rewards, only if they follow with their heads. When doing agility it's very important for your dog to be focusing on you and your body language..that's what is guding them through the course.

I heard that to start Agility training, the dog have to have a greta recall, since it is off leash. What type of recall practice did you do to enhance the skill?

I would say you could start at any age that you gain some control over the dog. I think I have heard that for large dogs you use lower jumps until they are near 2 years old because of hip development. Any good trainer will counsel you about that requirement.
