I am so excited to be doing agiity again.  We moved to a rural area a year ago and really missed our regular obediance and agility training.  Recently, I found someone nearby that teaches and judges agility, they also host trials there.  We went to meet her yesterday for a one-one session so she could see what we could do, and we start classes next week - yay!!  She trains to a high level, and I am already getting the feeling that I am going to be the limiting factor in Hartleys success!!

Hi, Gayle! Charlie did not start Agility until she was may be a year and half. Prior to agility, we did Rally obedience ( We still do) for about a year. Rally really helped Charlie with agility. We have no problem breaking starting sit, reading my body, etc... becuas eof the foundation from Rally.

I'm expecting a new ALD in July and had thought I might want to give agility and thearpy a try. In reading some posts here, it is mentioned when you started you Doodle as a pup in agility.  Is there a particular personalitiy trait one should look for in their pup to see if this is something they might suceed in?  How old was your pup when  you started?

Lori...isn't it amazing how different weave poles can make a difference.  I notice that Parris takes a run or two to adjust to different width of weave poles.  I have an agility friend that will train 18 weave poles instead of twelve because her dog always pops out with 2 poles left.  Go figure????

Karen...that is awesome that Spencer will already be familiar with his surroundings.  Parris LOVES to sniff so much that I use it as a reward after her treat cup.  How exciting that you are into competition prep!

Karen......you are going to have a blast. You MUST let us know how the first trial goes. Is your first trial inside or outside?

Karen....I used several methods with Parris.  When she was a pup I used 2x2 and I thought it was excellent.  I took a few seminars and incorporated some other methods....the 2x2 is a strong foundation.  When Parris and I first started trialing she found all her weave entries just fine....when she got faster on course...she decided to just blow by the weaves....just didn't want to slow down to weave.  I had to make them really valuable when training .  I also learned that I had to speed up as Parris was weaving so she could "feel" the rhythm. When is your first trial?  Get ready to have soooo much fun!!!

I am planning of doing the 2x2 training over this summer when I have more time. I was thinking about getting some plastic pipe from homedept or something and stick them in the yard.... I would love to hear your result. My trainer and her assistant's dogs ( just turned 2, sibling border collies) ) did 2x2, and they can find any entrance from any angle!!
