Keep her in her kennel, and get a dog stroller so she can go around the house ,be with the family and out for walks.
Try to stop any OOPs moments.
Thanks for asking. Megan had surgery on the 10th of January - she had a Megan had a CCL complete tear and is still recovering. It is hard to know how well she is doing. Sometimes she puts the foot down totally but limps - keeping her quiet is a chore. Thankfully she has readjusted to her crate really well but there have bee OOPs moments when we turn our backs and she does something dumb. She knows something is wrong and is doing her doggy best.
Welcome, Lucy, to the ALD group.
Please welcome Lucy Scarlett O'Hara, a 6th generation Australian Labradoodle at 12 weeks old. She is our first ALD and we are in love with her! She is sweet, funny and loves to give kisses...
Thanks for a great site and wonderful folks!

Frank & Sally - we had a standard poodle who had a torn cruciate ligament. Our vet positively diagnosed it and then sent us to a specialist who had done hundreds of these surgeries). He told us as long as he was putting weight on the leg he would not operate. He said when then time came that he completely blew it out and was holding it up or not using it to contact him immediately and then he would do surgery. I would also suggest a second opinion and a definite diagnosis before contemplating surgery. Possibly it is a bad sprain or pull only. Keep us posted how it goes. Good luck with this. We will keep our paws crossed that it is something less severe than a complete tear.
This happened to our Jack Russell, after the repair her recovery took a couple of months. She was not allowed to walk on her leg until it was finished healing. She did fine with the recovery but during the recovery she had to be confined and that was the hard part for all of us. Her leg today, gets a little sore and stiff if she over does it, but after a day or two of rest she is fine.
Plan on home care, carrying her out to go potty for awhile and NO RUNNING or jumping at all as this could undo everything that has been accomplished.
Sally and family I should have also mentioned that there is a Health and Medical Group on DK and I would recommend posting this question there as well. Here is the link:
Our medium labradoodle, 39 lbs. started limping yesterday while playing ball. We took her to the vet today and he said she probably had a cruciate ligament tear which would require surgery. We are planning on getting a second opinion as the surger sounds like it requires lots of down time and money and the results don't sound so great. Just wondered if anyone had experience with this. Thanks to Rick &Tara for letting me know about the posting option.
@Sally, Frank, Shanley & Megan. I suggest that you post your question about Megan's cruciate ligament tear either here in comments or in a discussion in this group. Unfortunately there is no way to respond to the Group email that you sent out.
This is a fairly common injury in all types of dogs and my understanding of it is that it almost always requires surgery to repair. Here is a link to a story about a dog who recovered without surgery but you can see how rare it is and how much work was involved in his recovery:

My neighbor's dog who was a mixed breed had this injury and also had the surgery so it is not something unique to doodles. Also it can occur (as you will see in the linked story) in very physically fit dogs so it doesn't seem like there is anything you can do to prevent it from occurring.
Is it possible that she just sprain or strained her muscle or ligament. Since your doctor said "probably" could it be a sprain or strained muscle? What does he intend to do to confirm the diagnosis? I wouldn't jump into surgery without a definite diagnosis from someone that is well versed in this area.
I'm sorry to hear of Megan's injury, whatever it may be, and hope that it turns out to be something less serious. Keep us posted as to her recovery and good luck! Here is another link with more info on this subject:
