Once my husband was out walking w/Sadie and she stuck her head in a bush. Something fell out of the bush and he realized it was a birds nest. All the babies scattered on the ground, scrambled to pick them all up, turned and looked at her. She had her head down...you know the look....in there was a baby bird, thankfully unharmed!

Wow! This is a fascinating discussion.  Maizy, now two and a half, is also very, very clever at grabbing things in her mouth and trotting along as if no one will notice.  While out on leash walks, she grabs dead things along the side of the road and never loses a step.  It is only that " head down with a mission" look that makes me realize I have to pull something out of her mouth...it is gross.  Once she had an entire, huge frog , with legs coming out of both sides of her mouth.  It sure sounds like it is a trait.  Our labs never did this.

I couldn't believe yesterday, but my little thief caught a mouse and has it hidden in his mouth trying to swallow it.  I knew he had something he should not have in his mouth and pried his mouth open.  The tail was hanging out, and I pulled it out by the tail.  Harpo was trying to swallow it!

Sadie just turned 2, she has calmed down a bit but still gets rambunctious. Still curious about everything, she checks all bags, boxes, suitcases looking for something good to steal. Shes a
much better thief now, but I've caught on. She walks fast with her head down, it looks like she's on a mission. When I see that I know now somethings up.

Hi all, Pepsi is a thief too! I have four dogs at home currently (my sons and daughters and my Shih Tzu) along with Pepsi (my doodle) and Pepsi is the thief, mostly socks. But if one of the other dogs has something in their mouth she will not rest till she gets it away from them. Then she'll just drop it.

She is very sensitive too. Not sure if this is a coincidence or not but Pepsi started smelling my sons dog's breath every morning he would get up and walk in the room. None of the other dogs did this to him and Pepsi did not do it to any of the other three dogs. We recently found out that my sons dog has cancer. Now it may be a coincidence but based on her strong reaction to some people and not others and to some dogs and not others. I tend to think she is a bit different and may have been able to smell something was different with Echo.

Just took something out of Sadies mouth. She thinks she can just sneak right past you. The other day as I was leaving the vets office, someone said "stop, thief!" I looked and sure enough she had her head down and had swiped a toy.

My dog also hides things in his mouth.  And he can get pretty good-sized things hidden.  When I realize he has something in his mouth, I can open his jaw easily and retrieve the stolen or hidden item.  What a kick!

Sounds like Treasure would have made a great "bomb sniffing" dog as he surely has the interest to look everywhere for interesting things!   What a toot.

Joan, I think Treasure's middle name should be Hunter!! LOL!

When you had the CGC test, did they do a group sit, stay recall and individual other stuff?  Did you meet other students as greeting others? Did you walk around in a scramble?  What was the groom part like? Ned and Clancy are not fond of brushes....
