Welcome to the Dixie's Doodle Alumni group. Dixie has been breeding Austrailian Labradoodles for years now and I thought it would be fun to have a group dedicated to all the precious doodles that came from her program.

Let's share some info about our doodles! What litter did your doodle come from.. and of course, we want to see photos too!!

Oh..Happy Birthday Casey! Such a sweet face. I love the picture of Casey with you on the porch. I like his black nose and dark eyes. He sounds so sweet.

Happy Birthday to our Casey, Patrik, and Marley out of Bella and Radicchio! They're all "Dandy Dixie's Doodles" born on the 3rd of July!

The chocolates that dilute seem to start earlier and are a little easier to predict than the reds. There is something called a dilute gene, and that is partly what determines how their coats will develop. With the chocolates you can see their faces start to change by 6-7 weeks. The reds seem to stay red until their adult coats come in. If you get them clipped short at that time, their adult coat color is often much lighter. On rare occasions I have seen them get darker, and a little more often I have seen them stay the same color, but the most common progression is to a lighter color. I think that watching their coats grow and develop is one of the fun parts of Labradoodle ownership.

Well for Malu I can see he was starting to fade at 8 weeks! I think if Shelby was going to start getting lighter that would have already started happening? Or can it happen years later Dixie?

Dixie... I realized that shortly after I posted this story - didn't make the connection since they are one of the new members to our group. I have posted on their page to officially say hello! Wish I would have put it together while I was down in Austin! Marley was still a beautiful and rich red color. If our doodles will fade.... when does that typically occur?

Neat story Christine! And to make the world seem even smaller....Marley and his family, Andrew and Raechal, are members here!

Dixie... so I have been in Austin for a few days at a professional conference. I was walking downtown with my colleague and spotted a red doodle several hundred feet in front of us. I approached and said.... Labradoodle? Got a very happy and excited yes.... then asked.... Dixie's Doodle??? Got a BIG smile and a YES!!! Turns out I ran in to Marley from Bella and Radicchio's litter. I've got to say... Marley is a cutie! He was stunned (isn't it funny I don't remember his name), but I told him about Shelby... we shared stories and went on our way! Just wanted to share.

Sigh.....just booked Malu a haircut. Thursday is the big day. I feel sad :( I love his poofy hair, but I think he is one hot doodle.

Susan, there are only a handful of breeders that I'm aware of. I don't think they have a breed club. One of the requirements for AKC recognition is a breed club with 100 members, if I remember correctly.

Michelle, our parks department had a camp like that here in Georgetown, but I found out about it too late to sign up my grandson. It sounded like a lot of fun.

Dixie: Is NAR the breed that's seeking recognition by the AKC?
