Welcome to the Dixie's Doodle Alumni group. Dixie has been breeding Austrailian Labradoodles for years now and I thought it would be fun to have a group dedicated to all the precious doodles that came from her program.

Let's share some info about our doodles! What litter did your doodle come from.. and of course, we want to see photos too!!

This morning I let the dogs out as usual, then went out about 1/2 hour later to bring them in. Calista was about 25 feet away from me, and I could see that she had a snake in her mouth. She was picking it up and dropping it, then sort of standing over as if to claim it as hers. Ken was just leaving for work, so I ran up to his window to tell him she had a snake. He got out of his truck, and we proceeded to put all the dogs in the house. Then we went out in the area where we saw her with the snake, and looked for it. I can only guess it must have still been alive at that point, because we would not have been able to miss a red, yellow and black snake on the ground if it were dead.

At that point I didn't know what kind of snake it was; I assumed a grass snake. So later I let the dogs out again, and when I went to bring them back into the house, the snake was on the porch. Ewwww. I thought it was dead, but I wasn't sure.

By that time, Ken was at work, of course I was alone, or at least I was the only human here. Ken told me that I would have to put the snake away, that I couldn't leave it on the porch, especially not knowing for sure it was dead.

So, ALMOST IN TEARS, I picked the snake up with my kitchen tongs and got most of him into a ziplock bag before he moved. Yep, he moved.

Then I was really freaking out, but knowing that I had no choice, I bravely (not) pushed the rest of him into the ziplock with the tongs. Then I had to close the ziplock. Meanwhile, he moved again. I know that snakes can move around some when they are dead.

I opened the grill and put the ziplock in there. Someplace where the dogs can't get, and I certainly didn't want him in the house anywhere.

Knowing I had to go get my grandson at day camp, Ken said you'd better tell him about the snake. Because if you don't, this will be the day he decides to open the grill, and he will see the snake in there, the snake that might still be alive and is deadly poisonous.

So when we got home from camp I showed Dakota the snake and made him swear on his life that he would not mess with it.

Good grief!

I am still not certain that all the dogs are OK. Apparently the effects are neurotoxic, and it can take a while for them to show up.

p.s. I hope nobody got hurt! I guess you would know by now......wasn't aware that there were coral snakes in Austin, but then again, I try not to go where snakes are :)
