Welcome to the Dixie's Doodle Alumni group. Dixie has been breeding Austrailian Labradoodles for years now and I thought it would be fun to have a group dedicated to all the precious doodles that came from her program.

Let's share some info about our doodles! What litter did your doodle come from.. and of course, we want to see photos too!!

Hi Merrill, I think the Gentle Leader is a great product. I used to have a terrier, and I used it with him. The one I had hooked to the leash from the chin. I'm not sure if that is the only design. My dog hated it so much, and he would dance around frantically for a while until he got used to it. I think it would have gotten better over time, but he made it so difficult that I more or less gave up on it.

Now I use a product called a Sense-ible harness on all of my dogs. The leash hooks on the chest. Most harnesses hook the leash on the back. I love the Sense-ible because it seems so much more intuitive to lead a dog from the chest than from the neck or back. It's a very gentle product, and I use it on my puppies too. I bought my parents one for her dog, and it made a huge difference. See the Sense-ible here: http://www.amazon.com/SENSE-ible-No-Pull-Dog-Harness-Medium/dp/B000.... I never have a problem putting it on my dogs. They don't fight it like my terrier did with the Gentle Leader.

I think if Sully tolerates and adjusts to the Gentle Leader though, you will love it. If it gets to be a pain, you might try the harness.

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to get your opinion on the Gentle Leader. My Sully who weighs 50 pounds pulls so bad on his leash that it makes our walks a real challenge. I purchased a gentle leader and it helped so much. When I put it on him, he hates it at first and then settles into a nice walk. I just wanted to know if anyone had an opinion...good or bad....about the gentle leader. It doesn't appear to hurt him, but he isn't crazy about it.

Welcome Beth.. so glad you found us! I can't wait to see Alfie's blog...

Thanks for the welcome messages!

Jett sounds like such a fun puppy...so he & Alfie are 1/2 siblings...cool!

Labradoodles do seem to have an edge in service training with their quick intelligence, sociability, and knack for understanding people. I've only really been around 4 doodles (all from Dixie's Doodles!)...so my experience is limited...but they've all been "people dogs." Alfie and Dakota both have had the personality where if I'm trying to teach something, and they don't get it right at first, they don't get discouraged or bored...just keep experimenting until they do get it right. I love that!

Welcome Beth, I'm excited to take a look at Alfie's blog. I have a puppy from Kona and Shadow's litter. His name is Jett. He is almost 6 months old. He is a wonderful dog and he is very smart. He keeps me busy and fills our life with laughs and love. Welcome!

Hi Beth! Welcome to Doodle Kisses! I've been following Alfie's blog and love it! He seems like he is doing well. Your daughter's photography helps make the blog. I love the videos too.

Everyone, check it out: http://alphinisworld.blogspot.com/.

Beth also raised Dakota, who became a diabetes alert dog for a young boy. Guide Dogs of Texas allowed me to name him, so I named him after my grandson. Dakota means "friend".

I love to see Labradoodles do what the breed was created to do! Raising the puppies is a fantastic way for Beth and her family to give a meaningful gift to someone who will greatly benefit from having a guide dog for a companion.

I just discovered this group and couldn't resist joining. I'm raising a Dixie's Doodles puppy, Alfie, as a guide dog for the visually impaired (I volunteer for Guide Dogs of Texas). He's from Chessy & Shadow's last litter and is quite a personality!! I love to work with him...such an eager learner.

Sounds like Malu is alot like Jett. Jett was mischeievous and would puppy bite alot but he has out grown it now. Jett potty trained easily but I had to have an eagel eye on him He is very smart but also has a mind of his own. We only kept Jett in the crate at night and for napes and he was a very busy pup.

Yes, we have 2 crates for Malu. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. He does great in them and was sleeping through the night by the 5th night. He is so mischievous! Gotta keep eyes on him at all times, lol.

Thanks! I think I'm really going to enjoy the forum too. Congrats on your new puppy. Are you crate training? Puppies are lots of work but oh the reward.
