Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Oscar, (5 months old) just had his 1st professional groom yesterday. The groomer didn't know how much she'd be able to do because it was his first time, but she said she got through more than she expected (she said he was such a "nice" dog!). I had asked that a couple inches be taken off and he be given a puppy cut. The difference between the before and after pics aren't substantial, but he does look well 'fluffed'! Somehow, his head actually looks larger than before. Maybe because it is so fluffy and the curls aren't so compacted as before.
Here's before:

Oscar is just so precious! Before AND after!
Oscar got a really, really great haircut! I have a goldendoodle (mix of a white standard poodle and a english white retriever) and an australian labradoodle. We live in northern California and I have my pups 'done' by a few groomers. We have found a wonderful groomer who does cuts just like the one Oscar got. It is the perfect 'doodle' look! Darling!
He looks so cute!!! I think the cut is great! I have found that using a tooth brush with water and baking soda removes a good deal of the staining around the mouth. I do this after every grooming and it doesn't bother Willow at all.
Thanks, everyone! Pattie, I'll try your suggestion for beard staining. Lucy had that (red yeast) about 1-1/2 yrs ago and she was put on a round of antibiotics and got rid of it for good. I hate the idea of antibiotics for Oscar at such a young age, so I will give the baking soda a try. Thanks!
He looks great, and I can't believe how big he is already!
Ha ha... we finally have our 40 lb doodle that we wanted all along. No one said anything about us having it at only 5 months old, though!
Debb the groomer did a great job!!!! I think this is one of the first times that they have really looked like a Doodle pup afterwards! Oscar is so darn cute and fluffy soft! So, were you scared to get this first cut for Oscar? See you at the next romp.
Terrified! A part of me didn't want him coming back shaved and not looking at all like his puppy self. Another part of me didn't want to shell out cash, for what I thought might just be a bath and blow dry... something I could do myself. But every groomer I talked to said they preferred to have the puppy come just for that... a bath and blow dry, to get use to their facilities, tools and people. I'm lucky that Oscar's disposition allowed for more.
Thanks for the kind words... Yes, looking forward to the next doodle romp!
I'm sooooo jealous! My first (and only) experience with a groomer was awful. I took him in for a free wash and blow dry to Pet Smart (new puppy coupon) when he was 4 months old. I told them to PLEASE don't cut any of his hair because I didn't want him to loose his cute cartoonish Doodle face look. He said that he promised he would only trim a few hairs around his eyes so that he could see better, and trim a little around his butt for hygeine. When I picked him up 2 hours later, I was so sad to see that they had completely shaved from his forehead to the tip of his nose. Poor guy! (I was more traumatized). It has been 3 weeks, and he still looks like a poodle/schnauzer mix. When I complained, they claimed that I'm the only doodle owner they know who doesn't like the shaved nose.
Oscar is so lucky that he found a good groomer that listened to you. I'm now afraid to take Kona to anyone if the first place I took him went against my very explicit directions. I'm in Long Beach California. If anyone reading this knows of a good groomer who understands the cartoon doodle face, let me know. I'm willing to drive 30 minutes or more for a good groomer!
Wow! I actually don't see the difference - beautiful both before and after.
Oscar looks fabulous! What a good boy to behave so well for the groomer. He's such a sweetie.
