We have a 14 month old boy from ML named Rudy. He did have a milder case of Giardia, but we were able to get rid of it after a few treatments. He has the most loving personality. He gives us hugs when we ask and when he feels like having one himself. He knows the command hug which is sweet. He is bouncy and can run like the wind. lol But he is very gentle and kind. He is an amazing listener. (long story short) Our youngest child (who is special needs) had recently escaped un noticed from our yard, and without training, he knew he needed to stay with her. They were 2 blocks away and he was right there with her protecting her without a leash. He amazes us every day. We feel very blessed to have our Rudy in our life.
Thank you everyone for your encouraging words! I am super excited about our puppy and will continue to pray that everything goes well and she is healthy and ready to go in 3 weeks! Cynthia, Did you have to pay that $1000 to get rid of the Giardia or did ML take responsibility?
Heather - I got Pink (Emmie and Artimus) almost 2 years ago and she was one of the ones that came home with drug-resistant giardia. It took over 6 months and over $1000 to get rid of it. I'm glad to hear that they are testing them before they release them. You'll still want to test your puppy when you get her/him because they have ponds and streams so it will still be possible to get it after the test.
Pink is now a healthy, rambunctious (sp?) almost 2-year old. She's sweet and gets all kinds of compliments - she's a standard with shiny, black curly fleece.
My Millie is absolultely beautiful and so very sweet, however she is a wild woman when she sees anyone at all. She is 39 lbs of pulling and tugging me unctrollabely and at times pulling me to the ground. I'm 65yrs old and that's not a good thing. :)
Anyway, I'm a little confused as to why she is this way when I've never seen or heard of any other doodle act this way when they see people. ?? Any suggestions? I can never take her anywhere because she behaves so badly in that pulling/wild aspect and feel badly that she never gets to go anywhere. But, I just don't have the strength to control her in public situations .
I'd asked Manor Lakes for a calm, laid back puppy which she is at home......until she sees people. I can only open my door a crack to answer it otherwise she will bolt out the door and jump all over everyone and I can no longer have people come over to the house for the same reason. So sad, because she's such a sweet girl and not getting the gentle attention she deserves from everyone . I've taken her to obedience class but they don't teach how to control your dog on a leash when they see people. It's weird, but in class she was fine. ?? She must have known she was in school and might get in trouble. :)
I truly love Oliver, and I couldn't ask for a better puppy. His temperament is incredible (happy, playful, smart, loving, confident, silly...) and he is completely adorable. ML couldn't have selected a better puppy for us. We get compliments from strangers on Oliver nearly every day--I'm not exaggerating. Oliver has always been healthy, and he came home to us free of giardia two years ago in June. I have since heard of some ML families struggling with hard to treat giardia, and I would have been upset if this had occurred with Oliver.
Basically, I think ML produces stunning dogs with fantastic personalities, however, with that seems to come an increased risk of giardia (other breeders have giardia too though). I think you just have to do what you think is best for your family. If you get a ML puppy, be sure to get them tested for giardia immediately, and if they have giardia, treat it swiftly and be very diligent about cleaning up. Good luck, and post some pictures! I know we all love puppy pictures! :)
Heather, my Millie came here last August and she was tested (at my insistance) right up to the day before she left there and she was fine. She's a beauty and as sweet as can be. I don't blame you for being concerned because Giardia has been an ongoing issue with Manor Lakes puppies. I hope all goes well with your's. Good luck!
HI Everyone! I am new here, and we are expecting our first labradoodle puppy in June! (Well she was already born, we will be bringing her home in June!)
Any advice or experiences you would like to share? We are purchasing from Manor Lakes and the mother is Pom Pom. We are bringing home a little girl and her name will be Sofie. :)
