What Does Your Doodle's Name Mean?

Started by Camilla and Darwin. Last reply by Lynn & Casey Nov 19, 2011. 7 Replies

What is the meaning and origin of your Doodle's name? Darwin is Old English in origin, and it means "a dear friend." Loved that!

Our puppy's name is Mulligan!

Started by Felix. Last reply by Taylor & Huff Jul 9, 2011. 6 Replies

We named our puppy Mulligan, as in golf "do over".  We call her "Mullie" or "Molly" sometimes for short.  Just like it means "do over" in golf, Mulligan gave us a "do over"chance in life.  She…Continue

When Connor gets excited and wants to play, he "talks" -- and says something that sounds like "a-ROAR-a." I thought if we ever got a girl doodle we'd name her "Aurora" so Connor could say her name. :-) We humans could call her Rory.

Just wanted to share this pic of baby Connor and his brother-in-spirit Duncan the newfie. This was taken in March 2008 and Duncan left us in July of that year.

That is too funny about the name Justin, Susan! I never thought about it until college but everyone called one my friends "Justin Time."

I'm guessing you've all figured out how Guinness got his name...LOL! I acquired a taste for the "Guinness" in Ireland. I thought one of our daughters might name one of their children Guinness, but when they refused, we needed to have a Doodle with that name.

I had the name Quincy picked out 2 years before I convinced DH that I really needed a dog. He is named for the TV series Quincy M.E. When we were getting the puppy we didn't know if it was going to be a boy or a girl, and I was in a pickle what to call a girl. I had narrowed it down to Josie, JoJo or Callie. Luckily it was a boy and Quincy it is. I still spend time daydreaming about what I would name a second doodle. I just thought of a cute girl name. Any girl puppy is sure to be adorable or Dora for short.

Love these stories...esp. "Simon Sez B Good"!

Moving on to "human child" names, back 21 years ago when I told my mother I was considering the name Justin for my expected son, she said, "Oh, he'll be Justin time to Pack".

His name is Jonathan. Simply could not do it "Justin Case" anyone called him that!

Jack was named after another dog that we had. The old Jack had died and new Jack was bought as a replacement (crazy DH). Unfortunuately DH decided he was nothing like old Jack so we had to find another replacement. When we got the replacement, Jack's name was already taken so we named the new dog Moose. we used to refer to old Jack as Jack the Moose.
I 've always believed that they will let you know what their name should be. The funny thing is that Jack really seems like a Sam and Moose really seems like a Jack. Oh well.

Thanks Susan. Connor is still a very special boy. After all that thought and wonderfulness with Connor's name, when I decided to add an ALD, I looked up popular boys' names in Australia. :-) Simon was a top choice...then I thought of the adorable green-eyed blonde Australian actor Simon Baker.. That's how Simon got his name. :-) His registered name is Simon Sez B Good! :-D
