Jenny, Use the word you feel most comfortable with. Both mean the same thing. They stay or wait until you release them. The secret to training is to be consistent.
Carolyn, I always get confused with "stay" and "wait". I find myself using "wait" a lot more often than "stay". Stay is for longer period right??? I guess I should start practicing "stay" more often.
Jenny, Your question is the most frequently asked. First you each your dog the meaning of "STAY" by using it a lot. Stay before getting their dinner, stay at the door before going outside, stay in the kitchen before being invited into another room and so on. We have been taking photos since the doodles were days old, so they are very accustomed to the routine. For the 4th of July photo with 7 dogs I had help. We had to keep saying "STAY" and readjusting the glasses that would fall off...then taking lots of fast photos.
Will do Gwyn. Are yard isn't as pretty as yours but Maggie is welcome to come try it out once we get it.
Gwyndolyn, Love your dogs free spirit and athleticism. The grapefruits hanging in your tree and the bougainvillea sure make a beautiful backdrop for your photos.
Jenny, You're going about teaching Cooper to fetch and return the ball the correct way. Dogs are so easy to train if they are food motivated. Later the joy of the game will be enough for Cooper and then you can keep the cheese in the refig.
Definitely let us know how she does with it. Take videos, or better yet, let us come watch!
Oh Maggie you and Sassy could never survive in the same house! Too much ball competition. Gwyn, Sassy is getting the new large version of the I-Fetch machine in September (for her birthday), I'll let you know if it wears her out during the day. I have complete confidence she'll figure out how to operate it. lol
