Lori, this group is for ANYONE but geared towards those of us who work or did work with kids - counselor, teacher, teaching assistant, even lunch lady.

Hi there- I'm hoping it's okay to join this group. I am a former elementary teacher who now only substitute teaches at my daughter's school. I am also the Children's Ministry Director at a Presbyterian church which also involves teaching, curriculum planning (of a different nature, of course) and working with kids. I have a big heart for kids and teaching so I'd love to be able to listen in and contribute here.

You have a lot to be thankful for, Joni.  And the school year is almost over for you.  Here in California, we have 3 weeks off at Christmas and another week at Easter, so it takes us into June for school to be out.  The summer is short, but the breaks are wonderful.  When I was growing up, we just had from Christmas Eve to New Years Day off and just Good Friday at Easter.  BUT, we started school afer Labor Day and were out for Memorial Day -long summer but short breaks.  I think the 180-day school year is broken up many different ways.

Wow1  that's wonderful that you got a job!  It's very difficult here too.  I teach second grade and have 36 school days left.. rough class this year and can NOT wait for summer!

Congrats to getting a job so easily.  You must have made a wonderful impression to do that in today's climate.

Found you, Joni and Hudson!  There was a notice on one of my e-mails.  Welcome to the group.  What did you do for spring break?  Now it is the long haul to the end of the year and SUMMER.

Thought I would share this with all the teachers out there.  Last week I was substituting for a teacher who had hurt her back.  We had a lot of fun with Chinese New Years.  Today I was doing arts and crafts with the little ladies at the retirement center where my mom lives and we made these great little lanterns and then I told each of them the year they were born in.  We had a handout with all twelve symbols.  Then we were coloring the Dragon for the year of the Dragon.  At lunch time, the staff walked in and all the ladies were coloring away and you could have heard a pin drop.  Funny!  The old folks love the same stuff that the kids enjoy.

Nope, it was Sue Taper this time, but welcome to you also.  Always nice to have some new members.
