So, who is the new member?  It would help to put a quick note on the comment wall when you join a new group.

Have a wonderful school year everyone!  I have endured the smell of the Dismal Swamp fires, an earthquake and Hurricane Irene.  At this point...I am prepared for anything! After 26 years of teaching, I have experienced some new first.  I'm glad my husband's office is in our home and Bogey can now hang out with him. I hate leaving my doodle dude, but know that he will greet me with his tail wagging when I get home from school each day.

Wow! 31 kids in the class?! That's a lot of kids..... PA lost a lot of funding and changes were made, but I don't think it is that big at my school district. My dogs are missing someone being here all day..... I'm back to work, kids are back to school ( 2 of them went back to colleges) For now, I go home on my lunch ( I live 5 min. from school) simply because I feel bad just like Amy said about Charlie being in the crate all night and back in crate all day during the day.... Back to school is rough on everyone!

Hello everyone,

I am a middle school teacher -- about to start my 12th year.  I currently teach computers but have also taught AP programming in a private HS, Math, and various technology/photoshop type classes too.  I have an inservice this Thursday and Friday and students start Tuesday.  As you can see from my profile pic, this summer vacation brought us a doodle puppy.  I am a little nervous about leaving her for the entire school day..especially after being crated all night just to wake up, eat and go back in there.  I would love to hear how your puppies adjusted after having 5 weeks of having kids and the mommy home all day long.

Hey, Ladies.   This is Brulee's mom, aka 3rd grade teacher!  I got back into the classroom for prep days on the 17th of August and have had my kiddos since Monday, the 22nd!  Boy, it's a shocker to have to get up every morning and to have to be on your feet all day long!  I was exhausted!  The honeymoon lasted 1 day, then they were off to the "Talking Races!"  We were in the upper 90's everyday with our A/C on the blink!  Thought the heat would do me in!  We finally got our A/C going today, so that was a blessing!

I have 31 students on my roster this year.  How are class sizes in other places other that here in Utah?

Poor Brulee meets me at the door like she is going to turn herself inside out!  I miss her so much it's unreal!  I can feel some mats beginning on her tummy...HAVE to make some time to brush her or she's going to be a mess!  Where do we get another 12 hours or so for each day!?

Nancy, I hope your mom recovers quickly and get well soon... Enjoy your camping trip!

Congratulations on your retirement, Nancy.  I've been out of the classroom for nine years, and it's only been the last year or so that I can see a "back to school" ad without getting that twinge of panic.

Sorry to hear about your mom's fall.  I've spent the last year taking over my mom's affairs and overseeing her care (she's in an assisted living facility) so I know how draining that can be.  So glad you took some time for yourself.  You'll be a much better care-giver if you occasionally rejuvenate yourself with some time away.

YAY!!!!! I AM RETIRED AND CAMPING RIGHT NOW ON WHAT IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN MY DISTRICT.  Just a little gloating... but I deserve it.  My mom fell and broke her hip in June and I have spent the whole summer taking over her affairs and seeing to her care.  She is still in rehab but my DH (who also just retired from teaching) and I needed a break.

Yep, it is that time again.  I have already done one day of subbing and will work again on Friday.  One day a week is great for me.
