Thanks, Beth. I did hear that he wasn't a teacher for very long and hasn't been a principal for that long either. I think he is insecure and concerned that people will take advantage of him. Family IS more important - he has 2 elementary aged children and 2 teens. Does his wife do everything for him? Maybe...

Sounds like he is trying to be the TOUGH new principal. He is MAD at you over this? The good thing is that he is out of the classroom, can't imagine chiildren putting up with him, was probably a bully of a teacher and he has carried it over to being a Bully Principal.
Put up with his maneuvers for the rest of this year, enjoy the remaining time with your students, since you are retiring and ready for the 'real world' at the end of this year.
Family comes FIRST. Your grandchild deserves you to be present. If the principal is mad, it's all him. Go with your heart.

Yea, Shelly. I like your style. I spent hours today writing the stupid lesson and showing how I was addressing Blooms Taxonomy in it and deciding what was specifically modeling, instruction, guided practice, independent practice in a lesson that I have done about 10 times before; one that I can do in my sleep. But actually tearing apart and compartmentalizing - ugh! But now it is done and I will turn it in and wait for HIM to set the appt. The ball will be in HIS court. Now if he got a doodle, I might like him, but naw, I still wouldn't.

WOW! He's probably just flexing his "new principal muscles".... Geesh! I say too bad about what HE thinks.,. enjoy that baby.. with all of your experience I am sure you can probably 'wing it' anyway.. and if what you have on paper is not the route the lesson takes, tell him oh, well - that's 'classroom life' $h!t happens for us teachers! what's he going to do FIRE you?! LOL enjoy your last 140??? days, and FIRST grand child (BOY or GIRL?)

I am sure that it will be a breeze..... I am not in the class room, so, i I never get evaluated like that eventhough I get evaluated every year.... But it must be stressful to have to perform while being observed.....

The date was set in advance, but I couldn't get started with the planning until the regular education teacher told me what unit and skill they would be working with, and she just didn't do it in a timely manner. I should have gone ahead and just planned something else from the beginning which is what I am doing now anyway. But it just doesn't seem like such a big deal to ask to postpone. I haven't ever done it before but I hear teachers do it every year so why is he mad?

Can you go to your union rep? It would have been nice if the date was schedule well in advance so that you won't have to rush around!!! But I am sure you will be fine!! Yeah, it seems everywhere that all they care is the test score.... Our middle school gets really bad rep, but they made AYP. Kids worked hard for it. But Admin never had rally or celebration of any sort for the kids... it was not even mentioned... :-(

Oooohhhh I need to vent. I am so mad! It is my year to be evaluated but you can request a waiver which could be granted for 5 years. Since I plan to retire this year, I requested the waiver and my principal said no - he is new but WTD - he should have been glad to grant it. But No..... so we set the date for this coming Monday. I am supporting this sp. ed. student in his reg. ed work so I need to wait for the teacher to give me her plans. Finally, I get them and the reading comprehension for this story is generalization - not a KEY standard and apparently this new principal is all about the CST (California Star Test) as the only goal anyone should have this year (I am serious), so I scrap the plan and start over. I also missed school Tuesday because I was at the birth of my first grand baby, then I go to another school on Wednesday afternoon, then the grand baby had some problems that needed a doctor - so there went both Thursday and this afternoons ( technically I don't work Thurs. or Fri. pms) so I drove to the appt. I tried to get the new lesson completed before I left but I just couldn't so I canceled the appt. and the principal is mad at ME. thanks for letting me vent!
