Are you going to strike during winter break or wait until school resumes?

94% voted "Yes" to the authorization.

Our district is not honoring the contract to pay for part of our health insurance. Our bargaining committee found a way to offer a cheaper but similar plan but, unless the teachers agree to add a cap on how much the district will spend as their share of the insurance premium, they are going to have teachers pay the entire premium of $464 (as a punishment).

That's too bad, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I was hopeing that it could be settled before now. Good luck.

Announcement in our paper today that the board members in one local district are losing benefits. Their health care benefits, monthly stipend, workshops, life insurance, travel expenses, and internet services are going. But that is so much better than losing aides and custodial services. I'm sure other districts will follow. Most of the board members have other jobs or are retired, so it is not as drastic as it could be.

I know... The union communicate throughYahoo group each day from home.
And yes, the 10 % contribution to the health care coverage is a bit too much. We are already paying the % now. At the district I worked before, we did not have to pay a dime. I hope it works out. The thing is that, I am the only district social worker, and my office is in administrative building. That makes me feel uncomfortable a little....
