QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups. Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.
I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

I have a 12 week old ALD "grand dog" that visits frequently. Oliver is 8 and tolerates the puppy play fine with no issues at all. Ivy on the other hand was a bit stand offish (as she is with all…Continue

Wow Jane, that was a lot for Murph to deal with today! It sounds like he did pretty well with it. Good job, big guy!
Well we made it back from Murphy's training session at Petco unscathed. We started with a 40 minute walk on the bike path...lots of dog walkers and joggers today. Murphy didn't react at all to the joggers, but he did react to many of the dogs (as I expected). It's funny because the trainer was actually able to predict which dogs would "set him off" as they approached. He was always right...I have to get better at that. By the end of the walk he was doing much better, and his "heel" was really good (ex "dog distractions"). Then we went to Petco where they were holding an adoption event. There were lots of people and dogs. He got better and better the longer we were there. We asked a few people to help with the "petting by a stranger". I was able to "heel" him past the pens with the rescue dogs with no incidents. Toward the end he did react to a huge black dog. I didn't spot that dog until he was right in front of us, so I didn't have a chance to correct Murph at the "looking" stage. He did lunge at that dog...but just for a minute. Then we sat outside on a bench for a while as people walked in and out with their dogs. Again, he was fine with some and reactive with others. We decided we need to do this with Murphy often. He is starting to get the idea about what's expected with other dogs, but it's going to take lots of repetition.
Good luck with your first training session today, Becca and Lucy! Let us know how it goes.
We do heel, auto sit, and sit/stays in the Park. I haven't started real work on "down" yet, although I've been doing that all along with him, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
It was FREEZING, and Murph hated the wind blowing in his face. He kept wanting to back to the car. We only did 20 minutes of heel training. Today there were only two distractions (no other crazy people in the Park). The car was a distraction (because he kept wanting to get back to it) and lots of feathers from all of the geese that have been using this Park as their rest stop during their migration. He was intrigued by the blowing feathers. Overall he did well with the heeling...minimal need to correct. He had kind of a "lets get this over with" mentality.
Sooo..how was it?
