No puppy potty or piddle pads.  Make them learn to go outside right away.  They will grow rapidly and be too big for puppy potty's or piddle pads.   My ALD's were potty trained in one week after I got them home.    I took them out often when not in the crate like about every 1/2 hr.  I was obsessed with wanting them to get the idea of going potty outside , which they did.   I would take them out, say , "go potty" and then when they did, take them right back inside.  Crate them when you cannot watch them  or take them out.  They also sleep alot like babies, so it's ok to put in crate. Not mean. :)    Mine never messed the crate.    I would take them out just before I went to bed and then early in the morning around 4 or 5 at the beginning.  It seemed like I spent alot of time taking them outside but it really only lasted about one week of that every 1/2 hr thing.   After that, I would extend the time and all went well.  Good luck!!!

We switched litters and now will bring home June 1! Super excited to point of obsessing. What does everyone think of puppy potty? Needed or they should go outside no matter what? I will be supervising/home with pup! Thx for any feedback!

The biggest and most important thing is getting into a routine of taking puppy out to potty often.  Remaining in crate is a necessity during this process. If out of crate, you need to constantly take out.    It seems odd and not nice to put in crate, but in a couple of weeks you will have a puppy that knows what he/she is supposed to do first when they go outside.  It's wonderful to have that task done right away.  I have two doodles and they were potty trained with only a few accidents two weeks after I got them home.  It's a pain in the neck to do so often but so worthwhile.   As far as anything else, puppy will adapt to YOUR schedule and they should learn to do so, so life will go on as usual, only with your sweet little furry member of the family. :)   Enjoy!

Thanks, Leslie! That is a great idea. Maybe a calendar, with pup's schedule too...if you can, post me a pic of to-do's on your list - would like to not forget anything and will keep anticipation at bay, somewhat. :) Thx again!!

Cindy,
I felt this way (that I wouldn't be ready when we got yogi last October)
It all worked out well. I finally got a little notebook and wrote down what I hoped to accomplish each day for the first week... Then I felt better. Like put collar on him, then expose to the crate, walk 5' with leash, play with ears, feet, mouth.
Just stuff like that. I'Il probably do it again for Maci ;-). I'm a list kind of person

So, the puppies are 4 weeks today and the breeder doesn't decide who gets which until seven weeks. I think I would be calmer if I knew boy or girl, etc.! I cannot wait, yet am worried we won't be ready!! Do I have enough chew toys, types of toys? Do I need the clipper right away? Yipes...anyone else feeling this way? :-)

Congrats, Rae! I'm worried about the weather affecting our puppy's arrival tomorrow (flying on small plane, piloted by the breeder's son, from FL to TX).

So tomorrow at noon is the BIG DAY AND MAGIC HOUR! Our baby Cassie is coming home! We made "the list" and checked it many times and I do believe we're as ready as we could get. So I guess after tomorrow we have to leave this wonderful group and head over to PUPPY MADNESS. We are so excited and can hardly wait to bring our baby girl home. We hear that tonight just might be our last night for getting a full good night's sleep for awhile, but she will be so worth it! Thank you to everyone for your support and shared excitement!
