Discussions welcome about DVDs of movies, whether they are foreign or independent or even mainstream. Also, for old and new TV happenings that are better than the usual fare. Even movies that are still in the theaters. Tell us a little about them and why you liked them.

Please start a new discussion rather than use the comments section since then a dialog is easier to follow and participate in.

Oh, good to know. I'm so glad, ha, that Linda restrained herself :)

F it was me who also likes Cowboys & Aliens. I'm a Harrison Ford fan and love sci-fi so it was my kinda movie. Lots of action and explosions but hardly anyone dies.

You have no idea how hard it was for me to refrain from giving C&A and Captain America 5 Doodles (out of 5). haha! I'm saving the "5" for rare, exceptional-in-every-way movies.

You know me too well, F! (I'm literally laughing out loud.) Cowboys & Aliens was really good. (I'm a huge Steven Spielberg fan.) Planet of the Apes looks awesome, too! If you go to that one Donna, please post something about it in "Reviews."

I read The Help and hope to get to the movie. Linda and someone else like Cowboys and Aliens, she gave it 41/2 doodles, how could that be. I accuse her of being too kind.

My daughter and I are voracious readers, and as such, more often than not, we are disappointed in a movie when we have enjoyed the book. This extends even to such great films as Gone With the Wind, and Terms of Endearment. So our belief is that you should always, always see the movie before you read the book. If you like the movie, you will usually like the book even more. Sometimes, a movie can lead you to read more about it, and find other related books, it was that way for me with Anne of a Thousand Days, I now know more about Henry VIII and his six wives than I would have thought possible.  Sometimes, with more difficult or daunting books, it actually helps if you see the movie before you read the book. The Right Stuff was that way for me.

My daughter has a T-shirt that reads "Never Judge a Book by its Movie". Donna, go see The Help. It won't spoil the book for you.

We are going out to see a movie tonight, not something we do often. I know The Help is a good movie but I want to read the book first. Our options are.... Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Cowboys and Aliens, has anybody seen either one of these gems.

Good ideas and thanks Linda for all that work. Now folks will have an easier time deciding where to put things. Also, if people want to discuss something in depth they can always start a separate discussion and maybe mention that in one of the ongoing discussions.

I merged the "What new movies have you seen (in the theater)" thread with "Reviews" (and copied/pasted the discussions over) since they're so similar. :)
