Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?

This group is for those of us with puppies or dogs who look far more like the Golden or Labrador halves of themselves than the Poodle half. This group is for us to recognize the Poodle traits that shape our dogs while sharing experiences.

Tiki- what a cutie Gingy looks similar to my Winnie

Stacy, I feel you! I had 3rd pic out of 4. Only the 1st chosen had the chrysanthemum of fur around the muzzle.  My breeder (Lonestar Doodles) told me that Gingy would be Shaggy/Wavy.  She didn't start sprouting until last month (@ 5months). There is still hope!

Even the shaggiest, "doodly-est" dogs don't have a beard at 8 weeks. But they usually have what we call a "chrysanthemum" of fur around their muzzles and/or between their eyes.

Elizabeth- your doodle didn't have a beard at 8 weeks like my Winnie? Bailey looks a lot scruffier

Stacy, my Bailey was really scruffy and not doodlie at all when she was a baby.  She has turned into a beautiful doodle girl.  Here is what she looked like at 12 weeks.  Puppyhood is a difficult time for us humans, lack of sleep and some frustration can be hard.  Hang in there and come to DK for help.  There is so much info to be shared on this site.....  it is a wonderful place to come and ask for help and get suggestions....

I posted my response before reading all of yours so I deleted it.  I am so sorry that your breeder deceived you.  Not having a puppy in a number of years can be a more of a shock than what the dog actually looks like.  If you really are unhappy though, you can contact a rescue to re-home her for you - they would find a great home.  If you are only disappointed but can live with it, join the puppy madness group to help you through the crummy parts of puppy raising.

That's an interesting read. Although I tried to go to the goldendoodle world website mentioned in it and it's nonexistent. Too bad it sounded like it would have some good pictures of smooth doodles

There's always hope, Stacy. She could be a late bloomer. ;)

Also, I really wanted Gracie to be one of the f1 pups that didn't shed. That didn't happen. I have enough hair around this house I could take up knitting. :D
