Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?

This group is for those of us with puppies or dogs who look far more like the Golden or Labrador halves of themselves than the Poodle half. This group is for us to recognize the Poodle traits that shape our dogs while sharing experiences.

Sonya, we've had a few discussions here trying to figure out this same thing. It's possible that the Poodles being used in these breedings are not 100% purebred Poodles, i.e. there is some other breed in there. The fact that your pup's dad is a "moyen" could point to this, since there is no such thing as a moyen Poodle in the U.S. or Canada. (CKC is a bogus registration). Or there is something else we don;t know about the genes for furnishings. Here is a good discussion we had here about this: https://doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/genetics-and-facial-furnishin...

From what I understand of poodle genetics if the poodle is carrying the improper coat gene then they can produce smooth-coated offspring.

Our F1 goldendoodle looked like a mini golden retriever (she was half mini poodle).  Several doodles on here don't look at all like poodles - it does happen :)

We have an F1 Golden Doodle that is now 6 months old.  Her mom is an AKC and CKC registered Golden Retriever.  Her dad is a CKC Moyen poodle (about 25 pounds).  She looks like a mini Golden Retriever.  She has no furnishings and has a smooth coat.  She is so sweet and we love her.

Here is my question.   Is it possible to have a F1 Goldendoodle with no furnishings and a smooth coat?  I thought poodles carry 2 dominate genes for furnishings, which would mean that all F1 goldendoodles would have furnishings.  Is that correct?

We have been searching for answers. Please let me know if you have any answers.  Also, please let me know if you have an F1 goldendoodle with no furnishing.  Thanks

At first when we realized our Luna wasn't going to be a "doodly" doodle we were disappointed.  Very quickly though we were thankful because she was so easy to groom and we could always see her lovely expressive eyes :)

Enjoy your pup he's gorgeous!

Harmony I think so too :-) Less tangles to deal with. He looks very cute. In my book I tell all about how puppy coats will turn out if you want to know more. The straighter the hair at birth, the less fluffy he will be.

Hi, we just got our doodle a few weeks ago. He came from a litter of 12 and only him and one other had no wave or curl yet! At first I thought just a late bloomer, but now that that he is nine weeks old I think he is just a going to grow to be mostly a golden:)
